A move to from key forward to midfield in the second half of his third season in the WAFL unlocked a lot of Matthew Allen's potential, with four trips above 20 disposals in his last seven outings at a fantasy rate of 80. He ended up joint winner of the reserves best & fairest. Allen is well overdue for a shot at the seniors, though his charge came at the wrong time for a side enjoying a nice injury run on the way to the flag. Perhaps another slow start by Josh J. Kennedy will give him a chance. It would be too risky to draft him even if he is picked for round 1, though.

Lack of lolly for Allen
A stress reaction in his foot halted Matthew Allen's second listed season after two bags of three goals in the WAFL, following 10 from 10 games in 2016. Ten is also about the number of disposals on a good day for him, and he is not a hard worker on the chase when the ball hits the ground. Allen has failed to register a single hit out in his WAFL career, which means he is going to have to wait for one of the incumbents in the Eagles' forward spine to go down for him to have a chance at a long stay in the seniors. He is unlikely to be a fantasy player in year three, though his long-term prospects are better.
