Despite having an opportunity late in 2018 as the lone ruckman for an average below 20 hits outs at AFL level, Lewis Pierce remains on St Kilda's rookie list in 2019 after winning the best & fairest for Frankston in the VFL. While those numbers aren't encouraging for his chances of leading the ruck division, it must be said that St Kilda aren't blessed with any obvious ruck options. If Pierce appears likely to take the lead ruck mantle in 2019, he should be selected late in drafts.
Pierce lacks cut through

Wind taken out of Pierce
With Sandringham running with two and sometimes three talls capable of playing ruck last season, Lewis Pierce struggled to cement a spot and was dropped to the development league a few times, then used in defence late. It was only in his rare lead ruck roles that he put up decent fantasy scores. Pierce survived the cut that claimed Jason Holmes, though he is still last on what is quite a long depth chart for ruck at the Saints and he doesn't look to be a fantasy player if converted to another position. Leave him to moulder in the VFL, as the club probably will.
