A role change to turn him into a tagger in the VFL led to a long-awaited senior debut for Kyron Hayden in round 15, only to rupture his Achilles just before half time. His fantasy scores in the new position was based on tackles, of which he compiled seven per game to add to 13 disposals. Assuming that Ben Jacobs doesn't return from his illness, North needs a specialist tagger and it was Jacobs himself who guided Hayden through the process of becoming one. His statistical output in that role suggests he wouldn't be fantasy relevant if he does get an extended run in the ones.

Load on Hayden's shoulders
A powerful inside midfielder, Kyron Hayden’s challenge will be to demonstrate that he has the skills to perform in the AFL. Being shifted to the rookie list for 2019 isn’t a great sign, though his VFL form was promising at times. He also battled shoulder injuries which hampered his first season. Any young, strong inside midfielder needs to be monitored by fantasy coaches, but Hayden shapes more as a potential free agent pick-up if he shows strong form, rather than a draft selection.
Hayden seeks tons
Using his big body to win inside footy to draw comparisons with Sam Powell-Pepper, Kyron Hayden averaged 22 touches at WAFL Colts level last season, though that number dropped to 14 in WAFL reserves and at the Championships. Hayden may lack SPP's ability to step up into the AFL weight class at this early stage of his career. Watch him in the JLT to see whether he can compete with men, but don't expect too much as SPP's first year was barely startable anyway.
