Dropped on three occasions throughout the season, Joshua Wagner was one of a legion of Demons who failed to reach previous standards last year. the older brother to teammate Corey Wagner lifted his disposal output, although significantly declined in tackles per outing. Wagner has been unable to demonstrate his form from year one and has subsequently failed to play as many matches in each of the following three. With such a body of evidence, it appears apparent that fantasy coaches are better looking elsewhere.

Wagner's tale in the doghouse
Things were looking good for Joshua Wagner after round 3 last season, as he reached 15 disposals in two out of the first three matches. Two games later he couldn't get into double figures and was dropped to the VFL, where he couldn't earn a recall despite four fantasy tons in August. Wagner's spot was eventually filled by Jordan Lewis who regularly topped 20 possessions, and that's the standard he will have to beat to win it back. It's a dog-eat-dog world on the Melbourne list as everyone fights for a spot in a good side, and he doesn't have a special trick.
Don't ring Wagner
Three short senior stints in between VFL appearances suggests the coaches at Melbourne are looking for Joshua Wagner to deliver something that he hasn't quite found how to do yet. Finding the footy more than 16 times a game would be a good start. This selection pattern was a repeat of his 2016 season, which is a worry. There are better players on the Demon list who should keep Wagner out of the ones in 2018 if they are fit, Christian Salem in particular. He is not draftable.
