Josh Rotham has been announced as the West Coast Eagles' lead ruck for today's clash against the Saints, leading to a question for fantasy coaches: is he of any interest in daily formats? He would be playing out of classified position on the ball, which is normally a boost to a player's statistical output. Those with a big bank balance might put him in a few line-ups to make sure they catch his score if he puts up a massive one, but the much more likely proposition is that Rowan Marshall is going to have a field day while Rotham struggles.

Josh Rotham is one of a number of West Coast Eagle defenders who seem to be somewhat interchangeable, playing their role minding the small and talls while the superstars man the spine. Rotham can often start as the third tall defender, and as a fantasy asset he and teammates like Tom Cole, Jackson Nelson and Harry Edwards can sometimes get involved in some kick to kick as the team tries to apply its preferred ball control style out of half back. He is an occasional play in daily fantasy, but it's devilishly hard to pick which day he is going to put up a decent score.
Rotham beefs up
After lifting his ratings in the WAFL in his second listed season, Josh Rotham made it to senior level four times without doing enough to cement his position. Rotham appears to be a depth player over whom others are preferred at this stage, though he has time to develop into something more. His reserves stats suggest he is not a fantasy player.
Don't bother with Rotham
Playing in defence in the WAFL in his second listed season, Josh Rotham dropped two disposals per game to 11 and did not excite thoughts of a senior debut. Rotham added seven kilograms in the off season and needs to add seven more before his body shape conforms to the rigours of AFL-level football.
Quiet in Rotham city
The step up from WAFL reserves to WAFL seniors proved a bit too much for Josh Rotham in his first listed year, posting averages of 13 possessions and 49 fantasy points off a HBF. There is a spot available on a HBF at the Eagles, but Rotham is nowhere near the pace in the preseason battle to take it if those numbers are any indication.
