Many had written off Josh P. Kennedy due to age last year, only for him to wind the clock back and average 108 fantasy points in his first eight games. A left knee injury inflicted in round 10 caused him to slow in the second half of the calendar, ending the season with 32 possessions, nine tackles and two goals for a season-high 150. The veteran ranked top 10 across the league for tackles and clearances, with 13 of his 27 possessions contested. Kennedy will be leading the Bloods inside midfield brigade once again, supported by Luke Parker and a host of younger and less credentialed players. The ex-Hawk has lost more than a yard over the years, and didn't have many yards to start with, but he is a fearsome accumulator so that doesn't matter for fantasy purposes. Expect another excellent season from this workhorse, ignore his age, and take him with a pick in the upper third.
JPK is a rocket man

Josh P. Kennedy has been one of the prime movers in the Sydney midfield for so long that rumblings about the slowness of their engine room has reached fever pitch, particularly now that they are falling down the ladder towards a rare finals absence this year. He used to be thought of as a perennial contender for top six fantasy midfielders, but by now he has dropped out of the interest zone for all but draft leagues, where he remains a low-end starter. It would be a brave coach in salary cap formats who could predict any upside left.
The recession JPK had to have
Many fantasy coaches hoped that Josh P. Kennedy would bounce back in 2018 to regain the 100+ average he'd held in the three seasons preceding. The veteran midfielder dropped his scores again on the back of a decrease in possessions. He still ranked second for disposals at the Swans and first for clearances. As the 2019 season approaches, Kennedy looks to be in ripping shape this preseason. He’ll be hopeful he can bounce back from his dip and return to the elite numbers that coaches are familiar with. Kennedy is as durable as they come and should still be drafted in the early rounds.
JPK ready to launch
Another season completed, another standout year under packs by Sydney’s chief extractor. Josh P. Kennedy has featured in the top three contested possessions every year since 2011. He dropped two handballs and a tackle off his 2016 numbers, due to the slow start that most of his teammates shared. It's a rare tagger who can compete with him inside... though Mitch Robinson held him to 20 touches in round 7 last year. JPK should be drafted in the early rounds, with bonus points for consistency and durability edging him even higher with potential to bounce back to regain the ten points he lost.
