For the past two years Josh J. Kennedy has struggled in preseason recovering from injury, and in 2019 he never fully got up to speed in booting a measly (for him) 44.27 from 20 appearances. His goal tally went past two only twice in his last ten matches through September, a far cry from an average of over three for the previous five campaigns. As he has grown older, his lack of chase has become more apparent with a tackle count below two for a while now. Theoretically, Kennedy has bounce back potential of thirty points or more if he can get his body right. His age is working against him, and given he is out of contract at the end of the year there is every chance that the club will want to set up a plan for his retirement, which means centring their attacking plans on someone else... like Jack Darling. Gone are the days when a paddock would be cleared for him to lead into. He'll struggle on, probably mouldering away on someone's bench in your league.
One last flight from Kennedy

Josh J. Kennedy was the darling of West Coast Eagle fans in a career-best vein of form last year as were many of their premiership heroes, even though he nearly choked it with a late clanger in the grand final as he had early in their previous appearance on the last day of the season. 2019 has been distinctly pumpkin-flavoured, however, causing fans to start using their old refrain that he looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane. Perhaps an outing against the hopelessly undermanned Gold Coast will ignite his season.
JJK is out of this world
Preseason ankle surgery hampered Josh J. Kennedy's ability to run early last year, leading to a delayed start and only three home & away games after the bye. He was pronounced fit for September though, and booted nine goals in the three finals including a game-turning second half in the qualifying final. West Coast went 13-1 with him and 6-5 without him. His 2019 preseason was hampered following shoulder surgery. Kennedy was another Eagle to put a bad performance on the last day in 2015 behind him. He has already said that his preparation will be better this year as he can do all his running, so assuming no further hiccups then he has 15 to 20 points upside to regain in a possible bounce back season. The development of Josh Darling in front of him will only help him, as it won't mean a big lessening of targets. Draft in early rounds.
JJK's goal is goals
Keeping up his record of not being held goalless since the 2015 grand final, Josh J. Kennedy became a bit of a flat track bully last season with all of his fantasy scores over 85 against non-finalists. He went on a run of 23 goals in four games during the season with only one fantasy ton among them, highlighting his dominant position as the leading marker inside 50 in the league. Kennedy's role is just too deep for him to accumulate in any meaningful way, so hitting the scoreboard is the way he builds a fantasy score every week. He has been particularly poor against top-four sides, dropping 28 points in those games last season, which means he is a matchup play at this point to place in middle rounds in your draft.
