The first selection in the 2011 national draft, key forward Jonathon Patton sat 2019 on the sidelines as he struggled to overcome his third ACL injury and made a long-awaited move south to try to escape a string of bad injury luck at the Giants. Patton trained through the back half of the season and has enjoyed an untroubled preseason. A dominant goal scorer at his best with immense presence in the contest, he has rarely burdened statisticians enough to warrant fantasy selection.
Patton marches south

Generally, ignore Patton
After missing just four matches over the previous two campaigns, Jonathon Patton suffered his third ACL rupture midway through 2018. When on the park, the Giant split time between the forward and ruck positions, recording a career high in hit outs per game. This was also apparent in his goal scoring, unable to replicate the feats of the previous season in dropping by over a goal per game in production. Patton is unlikely to feature until the back half of the season. Following the return of Shane Mumford, it remains distinctly possible that the Giant will return to his preferred role in the forward line. Reports in the preseason suggest Patton is looking to shed kilos off his frame, perhaps in effort to minimise the risk of injury. Don’t even think about drafting him for the upcoming season.
Davey runs up scores
After a lackluster 2008, Melbourne had some serious changes to make for the 2009 season: enter a faster, slimmer Aaron Davey.
Having showed great promise and silky skills as a forward over the past few years, the switching of Davey to the midfield has been a great move for the Demons and fantasy coaches alike.
His exquisite use of the ball means he is a fantastic Super Coach player, averaging 105 in 2009, particularly exciting between rounds 2-7 where his lowest score was 113.
In addition to this his Dream Team scores have benefited greatly from his new midfield role with an average of 89, despite a run of three sub-par scores over the past three rounds.
Regardless of his recent low scores, coaches that selected him from the beginning of the season would be happy with his high averages, especially considering his starting prices of $294,300 and $425,300.
