A series of hand and back ailments kept defender Jimmy Webster sidelined for much of 2019 after the opening couple of months, eventually reappearing for the final three Sandringham fixtures. The Saint suffered a decrease in disposals and marks after career highs twelve months prior. Webster has been suffering back tightness throughout the preseason, restricting him to only running sessions. Since debut the half back has struggled with injuries, never playing more than 18 games in a season. Look elsewhere for your defenders.

Search for Webster
Courageous, composed and skilled, Jimmy Webster is one of the AFL’s best defenders. A groin injury in round 13 slowed what was looking like an All-Australian season for Webster who had lifted his disposal rate to a highly startable 22, with only five per week coming in a contest. Webster is yet to pass 18 games in any one season to date so his injury history can’t be ignored. For this reason he is a middle-round selection, albeit one with the potential to score at a very high level for his position when fit.
Keep Webster off your roster
For the first time in his six-season career, Jimmy Webster did not play VFL in 2017 as he cemented himself in the Saints backline. His scoring gradually increased such that his average hovers around the baseline for fantasy backs, though he showed high variability with two tons and three below 50. Webster is not the sort of player you want in your squad, as if you pick him up late you will most likely drop him in frustration when he stinks it up in one round, only to gun it in someone else's team the week after. At best he is a warm body to slot in from the free agent pool if all your better options are unavailable.
