Jesse Motlop was given a surprisingly large amount of centre bounce attendances in Carlton's early games this season, with coach Michael Voss evidently looking for some speed from the contest in a team which has a lot of one-paced inside mids. His output was patchy, unsurprising for a player whose work would mostly be as a receiver waiting for a give from the likes of Cripps or Cerra, but Voss did not persist with the experiement as the Blues kept losing. So it goes for small forwards rotating through the guts: job security is rarely 100% in that role.
