Saints skipper Jarryn Geary battled with a range of injuries in 2019, eventually succumbing to a season-ending fractured fibula in round 11. A painful corkie that required surgical intervention had slowed him to that point, missing six of the opening 10 fixtures. He went on an individualised veteran-based training program in preseason. Key to the Saints defensive setups, coach Brett Ratten will be hopeful the elder statesman can regain the durability record which saw him play 94% of matches between 2015-18. Renowned for his defensive prowess, Geary has rarely made statisticians sweat over multiple games even though he can flatter with the odd decent score now and then.
Pain, pain and more pain

Geary grinds anew
Jarryn Geary is loved at his club for the little things he does on the football field. Historically, that doesn’t translate into big fantasy scores and Geary, in his 11-year career, has always hovered between 60-70 points per game. However, he rotated through central midfield in the two JLT games for scores of 51 and 68. It was supposed to difficult to see any improvement from Geary in 2019, as his deep defensive role was set in stone. Now, what is his ceiling if he settles in this new role? Probably not all that high, as he will be playing a supporting role at best. Consider him only late in deep drafts where defenders are at a premium.
Cogs whir for Geary
Putting up the same numbers the last two years running, Jarryn Geary does his best work these days without ball in hand as his role is to concentrate on defensive stopping. There was a day when Geary was thought of as a useful fantasy piece; no more, as he's more interesting in leading the backline than feeling the leather in his palm.
