Jarryd Lyons has been the quiet achiever of the Brisbane midfield in recent years, playing a Joel Corey type role while Lachie Neale grabs the jewellery and the likes of Zorko and McCluggage take the eye with their outside games. Neale has now succumbed to injury so more of the responsibility for extraction will fall on Lyons' shoulders, and he has shown previously that he is capable of carrying such expectations to deliver monster scores. He will be popular in DFS circles today for his high ceiling, though not so much in salary cap as his floor can be quite low.

Jarryd Lyons may not get the plaudits of Lachie Neale or have the high profile of a high draft pick like Hugh McCluggage, but you will often find his name hovering at the top of the fantasy score chart for the Lions, playing the workhorse role that Tom Rockliff used to for the club. With a solid base of tackles and the capacity to spread for link play as well, he has the complete game for fantasy purposes and can put up the odd monster score as well, albeit not with the same frequency as the departed Rocky. He is a strong daily fantasy play as his ceiling is imposing.
Rely on Lion Lyons
Moving an hour north to swap the Suns for Lions culminated in a first full slate of games for midfield general Jarryd Lyons, including five 30-plus disposal games from the former Crow. He returned a career high tackle count and rated top 20 across the competition for contested possessions. Lyons enjoyed an outstanding season and presents as a desirable fantasy selection with a positive durability record finally on his side. Lyons will be taken in the early rounds as a consistent fantasy force for the prior four campaigns, so you know what you get. Select and reap the benefits.
The new Brisbane Lyons
There is plenty of scope for Jarryd Lyons to prove his second club Gold Coast wrong for delisting him at his third home not far away. He delivered two solid years at the Suns, going at rates of 25 possessions, three marks and five tackles in as a perfectly solid if unspectacular inside midfielder. He is just outside top 20 in the league for clearances but inside the top five for centre clearances. The delisting of Lyons was one of the more mystifying moves of the off season. Perhaps this will turn out to be justified like when Hawthorn released Billy Hartung the previous year, only for him to get picked up and then dropped by North... but probably not. He should slot straight in to a rejigged Brisbane engine room and produce as before, rewarding a middle-round pick.
