Despite most assuming that Jarrad McVeigh would retire at the end of 2018, he’ll be lacing on the boots again as he heads into his 16th season. Not since 2014 has the Swans’ ex-co-captain played every available match, with surgery on a broken collarbone forcing him out for a number of mid-season matches last year, in addition to recurring calf problems hindering his rhythm. McVeigh’s knowledge and leadership are invaluable for the Swans, so as long as his body can remain intact and his form of a required standard, he will play for the seniors. Will be play every match? Extremely unlikely. Will he match his excellent scores of years gone by? No, but he will be serviceable. There is a lot of risk with McVeigh, so take him with a later pick if brave enough.
McVeigh still makes hay

McVeigh the inveigler
Suiting up for his 300th game in round 1, Jarrad McVeigh still has an important role to play for the Swans even though his midfield minutes have long since dried up. His role is now as a guiding voice and play maker across the half back line, as his statistical output has dropped towards the baseline for backs, with soft tissue injuries taking a toll as well as he laced up the boots on only 11 occasions last season. When McVeigh is fit he’ll play, as his absence was one of the main reasons that the Swans started so poorly in 2017. He may not be worth the big bucks any more, but like the more celebrated Luke Hodge he brings a lot of intangibles to the team. Intangibles don't pay the bills in fantasy, though, so don’t expect any phenomenal scores from the old timer if you take him with a late pick to fill out your roster.
