Jamaine Jones has been preferred off a half back flank during the middle part of season 2022 over Alex Witherden, with the ex-Lion racking up stats in the WAFL without getting a look in at selection. Along with Elliott Yeo, it's a new-look half back line as the Eagles plan for a future without Shannon Hurn. The club tried for years to make Lewis Jetta a weapon in the same position without it ever really taking off, and it appears Jones is the next to be tested in that role. His ceiling is at least Jetta and then maybe a bit more, in a side that is going to be rebuilding for years.

Jamaine stuck on ABCs
Rookie-listed Jamaine Jones suited up for the seniors in the latter half of last season. His best performance was an 11-tackle showing against the Swans in round 16, but otherwise he looked mostly like first year players tend to… out of place. With another preseason under his best, Jones will be looking to improve his tallies in 2019. Jones is currently far from Geelong’s best 22, so is poised to spend more time in the twos than in the ones. Add to that the injection of several established players from other clubs, not to mention a certain man named Ablett, and spots in the forward six will be even tougher to come by. Don’t bother with Jones at this stage.
Jamaine wants to dance
A full season of VFL for Jamaine Jones in a very deep forward role produced one bag of five goals but not much else in the way of big fantasy days, ending with averages of 54 points from 12 disposals with a goal per game. The Cats do have a hole in their forward line with Steven Motlop off to Port. Jones will fight for it in the JLT, though he is at the end of a long queue of titchy blokes with better immediate credentials.
