Late-preseason back surgery limited the involvement of Jake Carlisle last season, eventually playing the final ten fixtures. The ex-Bomber stood in the key CHB post underdone, struggling through to play a role for the team. As with most tall defenders he can put up a startable score when he gets involved in kick to kicks across a high defensive line, but that happened only once last year. Carlisle is increasing his training output as he seeks to restore his production of old. The Dougal Howard acquisition improves Carlisle's chances to get forward, a prospect that will concern opposition defences and pique interest in fantasy coaches who remember big occasions when he did that at Essendon. A dominant key position player, although he rarely sends statisticians into sweats.

Don't take Carlisle
Jake Carlisle has shifted clubs and positions in his time in the AFL but has never been particularly fantasy relevant. Whether he’s playing up forward or in defence, he simply has never been a big accumulator of the football. Carlisle is serviceable at best as a scorer and should only be considered as a late selection in deep leagues, though news in preseason that an existing back issue had flared up pre-Christmas should scare most away.
Jake of no trades
Apart from a few brief forays forward in a couple of games, Jake Carlisle held down CHB for his new club and was relatively quiet on the stat sheet. His startable games featured more than six marks, which happened in half his appearances. Carlisle's fantasy average hovers just on baseline levels with high variability, and based on his history you can't predict which kind of day he will have based on his opponent. Leave him to others, as this is the kind of player you don't want to rely upon.
