As a former US college basketballer with admirable athleticism, Madgen showed in his handful of matches that he could match it with big-bodied forwards. His call-ups were purely result of injury. Madgen has signed a new one-year deal but only as a category B rookie, so his chances of getting a call-up are slim to none. Look elsewhere.
Don't imagine Madgen

Don't bother to scout Madgen
Off the back of Lynden Dunn’s injury last season, Jack Madgen was promoted off the rookie list and given the chance to string together four late-season games. The former basketballer played as a key defender, and had no interest in racking up any fantasy stats. Madgen will be moved back into the shadows with more established names fit and firing. Therefore, don’t expect Madgen to lace up the boots for the seniors much this year, unless Collingwood are struck down by a another chain of injuries.
Bit of magic in Madgen?
Signed as a Category B rookie after four years in a US college basketball program after a year playing SEABL for Mount Gambier, Jack Madgen grew up playing junior footy in South Australia. The club has already stated that it will play Madgen as a close-checking defender, which means he is not fantasy relevant even if he makes an unlikely debut during 2018.
