Finn Maginness keeps reappearing in the 23 selected Hawks despite some glaring deficiencies in his game, mostly to do with his decision-making with ball in hand and sometimes disastrous disposal by foot. He is just barely AFL-quality when playing a medium half forward role, but his real talent comes in following the opposition's best mid and clamping down on him no matter how hard he runs to escape the tag. Sam Mitchell can be reluctant to use an onfield spot for a stopper but, when Maginess is asked to be anything else, he can look like a weak link. A fringe roleplayer.

Finn Maginness is a father/son draftee, son of premiership hero Scott, but he hasn't found a spot in Hawthorn's best 22 in his third year at the club. He has worn the green vest twice and missed selection five time, including four in a row before returning to the team for last week... when he laid a tag on Jordan Dawson so hard that it was probably key to the Hawks' victory. Maginness is not relevant for fantasy by himself, but if he develops into a fearsome tagger he will have to be accounted for in matchups, as he has shown he can shut down a premium scorer.
Let Maginness settle
The Maginness name returned to Hawthorn during the 2019 national draft with Finn Maginness taken in the second round. The Sandringham Dragon averaged 21 touches, five tackles and just shy of a goal per game in the NAB League. A lanky prospect throughout his junior career, expect the Hawks' priority to be filling out Maginness' frame. A promising prospect from a statistical perspective, the youngster may present as an option in twelve months' time.
