A half back negator, Ethan Hughes stamping himself as a regular in the senior side with a season best 25 disposals against the Blues in round 15. Primarily focused on mitigating the influence of the opposition's forward pocket, Hughes rarely translates on-field production to desirable fantasy scores. Look elsewhere for your back line.
Out, statless Ethan

Slim Hughes chances
18 matches in 2017 including a colossal game against St Kilda put Ethan Hughes in a great position to attack 2018 with a full head of steam. Unfortunately the half back flanker failed to maintain his position, playing only five senior matches for an average just over 50. Mr Emergency (nine times listed as a back-up) showed productive WAFL form across 11 matches, averaging 21 disposals and seven marks. The speedy defender will be determined to re-establish himself in the Dockers’ best 22 and extend his one-year contract, which he was lucky to receive after talks he’d be delisted and then picked up as a rookie. Since Hughes starts out of favour, he shouldn’t be on any fantasy coach’s radar. Don’t be fooled by the St Kilda outlier as, more often than not, Hughes’ fantasy scores haven’t set the world on fire.
Hughes not out yet
A two-year WAFL apprenticeship ended with Ethan Hughes staying in the senior side for most of 2017, hitting a high of 30 touches in the Saints game in round 15 but only reaching 20 again twice in 18 games. Ross Lyon may well change his mind again about Hughes going into 2018 as he may not have much upside left as a player, let alone a fantasy asset. Not worth considering.
