Leading from the front as co-captain, David Swallow ranked in the top 30 across the competition for contested possessions and increased his disposal, tackle and goal outputs. His highlight performance came in the round 21 Q Clash, gathering 27 touches and kicking two majors. More of the same will be expected of Swallow in 2020. The first man not named Gary Ablett jnr to win the club best and fairest, he has produced similar statistical production through each of his last four healthy seasons. Selecting him in the latter rounds as a reliable option may prove wise.

Ground swallows David
Knee injuries can end careers, and some can play on at reduced capacity. In that latter category we can place David Swallow, who has not quite been able to recapture his 2014 form since a nasty patella tendon rupture cut out a season and a half. The gap is only a couple of touches per game, and he was never that quick to begin with, but ruined whatever upside he might have had. Slowing Swallow down further this year will be the responsibility of being the primary inside midfielder of the team, after Jarryd Lyons was inexplicably delisted. His game got a little more outside last season without affecting his overall fantasy output, which means no change when that trend reverts. His average suggests he might be borderline undraftable, but he should be on someone's roster.
