Brayden Sier has always been a fringe player at Collingwood, blessed as it has been during Nathan Buckley's reign with a surfeit of A-grade inside midfielders. Like his teammate Rupert Wills, he lacks pace off the mark and instead concentrates on inside grunt with a lot of tackles and defensive work. You only need one blocker in a modern midfield though, and many don't even have one.A series of injuries haven't helped Sier's cause, and the recent back office focus on recruiting more mids tells us Sier is unlikely to graduate to best 22 unless he moves on.

Can't see Sier, sir
Aside from the Phill Inn basketball incident while recovering from a calf injury, Brayden Sier's 2019 story was rather unflattering. Much like the similar-bodied Rupert Wills, Sier's selections have been correlated with injury and form-related vacancies, not sighted in the seniors after round 18. Sier is every chance to see a career-best year ahead of him should the cards fall his way. At this stage, he remains on the watchlist. Since Nathan Buckley doesn't have room for both Wills and Sier in his starting 22, we shouldn't have room for either in ours. A potential free agent pool pickup.
Sleeper Sier wakes
This big-bodied midfielder didn’t get a game in his first two years at the club, but Brayden Sier finally was provided his chance in round 15 last year. Thereafter, he only missed one match, and did not look out of place in the Collingwood midfield. His fantasy scoring is based mostly on tackles, going at nearly six per match. Startable scores flowed when he also added 20+ disposals during August, though his pressure numbers fell away in September. The arrival of Dayne Beams means that midfield spots will be hardfought, but expect him to be in the rotations, albeit down the pecking order. Going into his second season at the highest level and with another preseason under his belt, Sier is a very strong chance to improve his output. He’s not a household name and will likely slip to the late rounds, where he’d be a reasonable choice for midfield depth given his potential to have a breakout season.
Sier is a sleeper
Wrist, concussion, back, hamstring, eye socket, foot... the injury room at Collingwood might as well be named the Brayden Sier Clinic, he's been down there often enough in the last two years. He managed 18 VFL games in between, with a fantasy ton in the last but not much beforehand. It is hard to get a bead on Sier's potential since he has had such a staccato career. He could bob up in the JLT on the back of a solid preseason. Much more likely, especially given the strength of Collingwood midfield stocks, is that he will stay in the reserves until he builds form.
