Brayden Maynard has never been anything better than a low-end fantasy starter in draft leagues, but he didn't even deliver that sort of output in the first this of 2021 as his role devolved back into more of a stopping job, including some matchups on tall forwards as Collingwood suffered a spate of injuries in defence. Since round 8, however, he has surpassed his personal bests in disposals and has lifted his numbers into the stratosphere in the last fortnight, making him almost a must-play in daily fantasy and a bargain if you picked him off the free agent pool in draft.

Laughs for Maynard
It was smooth sailing for Brayden Maynard in 2019, finishing fifth in the club best and fairest. The tough defender didn't miss a beat, quietly outdoing most of his opponents while regularly becoming involved in defensive kick-mark chains. Maynard is now locked into for a half back flank role, often gifted kick-in duties as well. His preseason is going along nicely so he warrants a pick in the middle rounds for an easy set-and-forget defender.
Middling Maynard
Brayden Maynard has locked himself into the Pies defensive unit as a half back flanker, despite indications at various times that he could rotate through the midfield. He’s coming off a career-best season in disposals and tackles and is a walk-up selection. However, he did miss four mid-season matches with an ankle injury. Maynard’s role isn’t set to change much in 2019. He will continue to play the accountable role on dangerous small forwards, and look to rebound with his polished left foot. Expect much of the same from Maynard this season and for a reliable fantasy defender, draft him with a middle-round pick.
Maynard is well 'ard
Watching Collingwood in recent years has been a roller coaster ride usually ending in a fall, and Brayden Maynard sums up the club: rough, lacking polish in disposal, and too often stuffing the whole thing up. Unusually for a HBF, he racks up more inside 50s than rebound 50s which puts him in a bracket with Matthew Suckling and Shane Savage. He spent round 23 tagging Clayton Oliver in midfield. Maynard is obviously a Nathan Buckley favourite, as he regularly commits coach-killing errors but gets a game every week. Perhaps a shift to midfield might be in order, as his clangers wouldn't be as glaring? Bucks should be planning to keep Levi Greenwood as his chief stopper, so thoughts of Maynard becoming the new Mitch Robinson might be overselling it. A late pick is all that is warranted.
