Lining up mostly on smalls, Ben Stratton negated the influence of a number of otherwise productive forwards while not worrying too much about participating in rebounds. Stratton will lead the brown and gold from the back once again in 2020, splitting his time between keys and pockets. Deep defenders rarely prove desirable fantasy options and he is no different.

Stratton struts into captaincy
A true bargain grab during the 2009 national draft, Ben Stratton continues to deliver tenfold on the recruiting department's outlay. Infamous for a mullet haircut, the Hawk played on a mixture of talls and smalls, ranking number one across general defenders for spoils. Pursuing the defensive aspects of the game, the veteran Hawk neutralised over half his one-on-one contests, rated second in the league. Ben Stratton is imperative to Hawthorn’s competitiveness and will be relied upon once more for the upcoming campaign. A leader amongst the Hawks defensive group, he has enjoyed a healthy preseason. Now the wrong side of 30, Stratton will look to defy father time for some time yet. Never an accumulator, look elsewhere for fantasy.
Short film for Stratton
Ben Stratton suffered a PCL tear in round 8 which saw him miss the remainder of the season. Able to play on smalls and talls, Stratton was a significant gap in the Hawthorn defence. A full preseason should lead to Stratton regaining form so he can fill the hole left by the retired Josh Gibson, although this has never translated to numbers worthy for fantasy sides.
