Hamstring and calf setbacks troubled Ben Reid in 2019. Strong training form earned him a recall for the preliminary final, in which he touched the ball four times. The last three years have seen the tall swingman's scores dwindle, due to both injury and form. Reid now enters his 14th season and will be used as a Mr Fix It in attack or defence when the mainstays suffer injuries. His job security and his scoring potential fail to impress, so the veteran is best ignored.

Sob story for Reid
The journey of Ben Reid has been a minefield of soft tissue injuries, with a career best average of 2016 before surgery on his PCL. He was overlooked in favour of Tyson Goldsack for the grand final, despite being available. Reid is under a restricted training load at this stage in the preseason and based on his injury history and decreasing scoring trends, he is best avoided in the draft.
Turgid passage for Reid
Collingwood's forward structure woes were so dire last season that by round 8, despite a lack of key defenders and some hot personal form at CHB, Ben Reid had to go forward to give Darcy Moore some support. His fantasy scores dropped 25 points mainly as a result of that, though a poorly-timed quadricep injury didn't help. Historically, his better fantasy scores come when he marks a lot. One of the better consequences of the mooted commitment to Mason Cox in the seniors next year is that Reid can return to his preferred position at CHB, racking up intercept marks in tandem with Jeremy Howe. There's no guarantees with Cox either, so there's always the worry that Reid will follow Harry Taylor and Cale Hooker in making that move. His average and role uncertainty means he will be picked late.
