Ben Hobbs has spent the early part of 2025 playing a deep forward role, something which tends to cruel your fantasy scoring unless your team is dominating territory - which Essendon is most definitely not doing at the moment. An injury to Elijah Tsatas last week and the continued absence of other best 22 mids, however, opens a small window for Hobbs and other hopefuls like him to get some centre bounce attendances and put up numbers that might convince Brad Scott to rotate them in more often. Not much joy at Bomberland lately, but plenty of opportunity.

Ben Hobbs was one of several Bombers who had a breakout 2023, but he has regressed this year while other went past him. Specifically, while Hobbs was used initially as a forward, he showed real promise when moved to central midfield, as Sam Durham and Archie Perkins have done with even greater success in 2024. The Dons can't fit everyone who wants to play midfield at their club into the same cramped engine room, and Brad Scott is still trying to find the right balance of offensive guns and two-way runners that will deliver wins in August and September.
Ben Hobbs was a decent if unspectacular fantasy cash cow this season, coming into the Essendon side in round 5 and playing every senior game since then. His strong job security playing a forward pocket role in place of the suddenly retired Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti has meant he has gradually accumulated cash week to week, not as flashy as teammate Nick Martin and not nearly as dominant as Nick Daicos, but they can't all be stars. He's still in a lot of fantasy sides as a useful emergency, and might even be in your 22 this week.
