Andrew McPherson plays half back for Adelaide, which at the start of the season would have made you wonder how he was ever going to force his way into a best 22 with champions in each small defender position. The way the season has worked out for the club, however, has led to a fair bit of experimentation which will only continue, and part of that has been trialling McPherson in his usual defensive role with some success, while Brodie Smith and Rory Laird are moved up the ground to bolster a midfield getting smashed regularly. He is another fantasy asset in the making.

Don't order a McPherson
For the third year running, Andrew McPherson couldn't get his body right to play more than a handful of times in a row, with two hamstring pulls restricting him to nine SANFL appearances where he averaged 61 fantasy points. Even if McPherson does pull a rabbit out of the hat to regain full fitness, he's well down in a stacked depth chart for half back flankers at the Crows so his fantasy draft value is most definitely nil. Best of luck to him, nonetheless.
No interest in McPherson
Soft tissue issues which plagued Andrew McPherson's last junior season continued to trouble him in his first year on an AFL list, with groin soreness at the start and then a hamstring injury only three games into his SANFL run putting paid to his year. He was on a modified training program through Christmas. McPherson is way back in the depth chart for a HBF spot and will most likely try to claw his way back to fitness through the SANFL again. Ignore him for draft leagues this season.
McPherson of interest
Injuries to quadricep and hamstring interrupted Andrew McPherson's last junior year. When he did play a handful of games, he averaged 24 disposals off half back in the SANFL reserves. The good news is there is a senior spot available on a HBF at Adelaide. The bad news is that McPherson is last in the queue. Given his recent injury history, a quiet preseason and more twos time are warranted.
