After five senior games mostly towards the end of 2017 where he reached double figures in possessions twice, Aidyn Johnson followed it up with another five appearances in 2018 where he couldn't get there at all. His highlight was a decent defensive job on Jeremy McGovern including three opportunist goals... though those were his only three kicks for the game. Johnson combines all the accumulation skills of a Richmond small forward with all the tackling talents of a Geelong small forward... which is to say, he doesn't involve himself enough. Less sheepdog, more bulldog is needed from this pup if he's going to break his way back into the ones, especially with newer models impressing in preseason. Port need blokes like him to lift.
Someone help out Aidyn

Little magic from Johnson
After a taster in round 5, Aidyn Johnson was brought back in for the obliteration in Showdown 43 then dropped for the final without having troubled the statisticians much. His SANFL work at half forward was about quality, not quantity. Johnson is another Port youngster who is likely to be left on the sidelines while the experienced journeymen fill out the senior 22 in the chase for top four, unless he burns up the JLT or Steven Motlop cops a big injury.
