Horse hands over the reins to his assistants for the NAB Challenge
QuoteSydney Swans coach John Longmire will hand the reins to his assistants during the NAB Challenge series.

John Blakey will call the shots this Friday night in Coffs Harbour when the Swans take on the Brisbane Lions at C.ex International Stadium.

Forwards coach Henry Playfair will take charge for the Swans’ second NAB Challenge match against Fremantle at Drummoyne Oval, while senior assistant Stuart Dew will be in the hot seat for the team’s final hit-out ahead of the season proper, against GWS in Canberra.

Young Swans pushing for round 1.

and the Ins / Outs for NAB2 vs Freo

Adam Goodes, Lance Franklin, Ted Richards, Jarrad McVeigh, Tom Derickx and Jake Lloyd have all been named in the 29 man squad.

Sam Reid, Ben McGlynn, Abe Davis, Harry Marsh, Lewis Melican and George Hewett are out of the squad that lost to Brisbane in Coffs Harbour last week.

In: Derickx, Franklin, Goodes, McVeigh, Richards, Lloyd

Out: Davis, Marsh, McGlynn, Reid, Melican, Hewett

No massive surprises, Reid and Mcglynn being rested after getting knocks in NAB1, the others bar Melican didnt play.

Will be interesting to see how they utilise the 3 ruckmen or if they drop Nank/Derickx once the final teams are named.

it is clearly jettas for now. took a number of the kick ins as well, but dont think he did one to himself which was one of eskis ways of racking up points.

rohan also played through the role.

Mailman the 2nd

So far

Highlights:

Heeney pretty much completely solid all round in all areas. Similar to Heppell I think he's a bit on the thin side though, so I reckon next year is when he'll really shine.

Luke Parker pretty much 100%

Towers looked a lot better than he did for the entirety of last year

Disappointments:

Not much preseason development for the forwards. Franklin didn't really need to play, but Reid and Tippett injured again means Goodes will have a decent workload for the first couple of rounds.

No real other new standouts other than Heeney. I was hoping one of Hiscox, Robinson, Nank, Naismith , B.Jack or Melican would put in a good showing in one of the games, but I guess they were all given limited TOG

SydneyRox

i liked robinson, especially when he got a run on the ball. some quick hands and poise, but his time playing that role was limited

Mailman the 2nd

Yeah I thought he was decent but I really wanted him to get a 100% go to try and rack it up  :'(

I guess Horse probably already has a fair idea of all their potential anyway so maybe it wasn't needed

SydneyRox

still looked rusty as well, guys missed a lot of targets and dropped easy (ish) marks

i hope he never takes a kick out again.

I dont know what is more nerv racking

Shaw taking a kick in or watching him run past and accept a HB off a player and run off
