Yeah Foxtel Cup kind of does that already, but it's not really ever going to be a true indication of which team is the best because a lot of the clubs just take in second-rate teams

Ringo

Ric was envisaging clubs deciding Premiers earlier and then running the KO competition over 4 weeks with the Final on AFL GF Day so all in the one year,
Foxtel Cup can continue as is.

Ricochet

Can't see clubs wanting to continue to play after winning their GF sorry mate
Might be a bit too much in the one season as well

Ringo, Aspley were in the Foxtel Cup this year and got spanked.

Yes but a Tasmanian team (a new team actually, but its previous incarnation were the premiers of the state the year before) defeated West Adelaide and made final 4

That was a tremendous effort from a league with 0 active AFL players.

What about a soccer style knockout competition (FA Cup like)

Would be good but would need big cash incentives for progressing each round and overall winner other wise teams will just send reserves.

People will only be interested when AFL teams line up against each other which is really no different to the NAB cup of old.

There'd be a few 100 point whoopings...

The VFL. They have the most AFL listed players of any state level competition and Port Melbourne has arguable been the strongest stand alone team of any other in the country

WA has two AFL teams. Victoria has 10 AFL teams. Do the math.

WAFL is the best, hands down. Best clubs, best history, best current teams, best attendances all-time...

Just because it's obviously going to be the case doesn't really have an impact on whether it's true or not.

Basically the point is
- The VFL has the most AFL listed players
- While the WAFL may be better (although I doubt it), based on the non-AFL players, the AFL saturation in the VFL should logically make it a stronger competition
- Ignoring all else, statistically speaking the VFL should be drawing from the larger population size, so should have the most talented players

but seriously, NEAFL FTW.

Wait till tbag gets a whiff of this  ;D

Like others have said though it's simple.. 10 AFL clubs filtering through the VFL makes it clearly the strongest.

The best comp is going to be the one with the highest quality of players running around on the park. That is the VFL. Also the WAFL has Bootsma now, enough said
