The following is a post from Jaxons on Saintsational. He is someone who has regularly posted trade ideas and progress with regards to the Saints over a number of years. He is no doubt close to the inner sanctum as he has the runs on the board to be believed.
With regards to Steele going for a second round pick....

"Will be this years pick 46 or next years second rounder, probably the latter.
We are also looking at other GWS players so that could change the deal and dynamics.
Steele looks likely but is not 100% just yet, and after Laverde nothing is done until it is done.
Early next week you will know about him.
We are very busy and looking at lots and lots, no different to other clubs however.
Am confident we will not pursue Hartlett further, asking price is too high on money and trade.
May reconsider if Port pay half his salary etc.
We want to get back into this years draft which is the right strategy.
And still pursuing a key tall.
If we get Steele and a tall back who is good and have 3 top 30 draft picks I will call that a very successful trade period.
We are still flirting with the idea of bringing in a big name without breaking our trade currency too much.
All can be done!"

So Steele will be a Saint, just a matter of what # pick.
The tall could be Corr who is said to have had a tour of facilities.
Hartlett can cross the Saints off the interested list at the going price.
And for the Saints to get an extra two picks in the top 30 than have presently and manage to keep #10 which Jaxons has previously alluded to the Saints will have to move some players on. He won't divulge who is being discussed because as he puts it, he has morals and won't discuss players at the club who need to be informed first.... which is fair enough.... but I'd suggest they are looking at trading one or more of Longer, Lonie, Templeton and Sinclair. The saints have four rucks, Hickey is by far our #1 ruck and Holmes has recently been given a contract and Pierce is developing well. Longer would be worth 20 something in the current climate. As for the other three they are all dynamic and creative small forwards with goal sense... three peas in a pod who could all go on and carve out good careers but who are all presently on the fringe at St.Kilda... we don't need all three.
Jaxons was on the money again.... foresaw the today's result 8 days ago.
Therefore Koby Stevens will be next.

LEWIS STILL WANTS OUT?

AFL.com.au has been told that Jordan Lewis and his management are still in discussions with the Demons about a trade this afternoon. It's understood the Hawthorn midfielder remains keen to be traded.

Why are people denigrating Carlton in the Softie trade... Softie is the sook and Carlton have every right not to trade if the Crows aren't willing to satisfy what Carlton perceives to be the value of a former no. 1 draft pick and required player who is contracted for the next 3 years...

If anything, Adelaide are sooking because Carlton won't shaft themselves.

I know people say that "contracts don't mean anything", however, the definition remains;

"Contract - A legally binding promise or agreement"

If the term "legally binding" meant nothing in Australia, society would crumble...
How are we being sooks? Cause we aren't giving them a 22 year old forward who kicked 30 goals in his first year of senior football? Or cause we aren't giving them a 21 year old midfielder who averaged more touches in his third year than Softie has in every year? (I get they are different players but far out.) Or cause we aren't giving them a 22 year old player who was probably our best player against the Swans in the Semi and has improved every year on the list? And they are asking for anyone of these players, along with pick 13, it's not even worth a straight swap for Crouch or Gov! Don't forget they are also contracted ::)

Would you as a Port supporter give up Ollie Wines and Pick 9 for him? No, you wouldn't. Also Softie status as Number 1 pick means nothing anymore.

If it's true, and I doubt it is, that Carlton aren't 'answering our calls', how can you say they are not acting like a bunch of sooks cause one of their best wants to go home for family?
Yeah a bit of a bad call on the Crows being sooks because they haven't even complained in any sense whatsoever (they are conducting themselves very professionally and seem to not be bothered too much by the result - not like CMac & Freo last off-season).

The problem is that Carlton have all the leverage and they can therefore ask for the price they want. They will look to get the trade done but I think Adelaide knows that they will have to pay overs for Gibbs due to the contractual situation and if they truly back themselves to push of the premiership with Gibbs, they will do it.

Pick 13 & a player should get it done, however, Carlton would have to be idiots not to milk out as much value as they can (why I don't see pick 13 being enough, even though people could make a fair argument that it would be if Gibbs was not contracted).
