Root is a legit freak

here's a random question - can anyone think of bowlers who field in slips? the only one I can think of is Jimmy Anderson. I'm pretty sure he fields at slip, doesn't he? I can't really think of anyone else. probably missing someone obvious as usual :P

Here's a good stat - Rooty has scored a 50 in each of his 11 tests against India (including today's), the most by any cricketer against any team (next most is 9). He's also the first overseas batsman to hit 5 50s in India in 35 years. And Cooky has hit 11k runs!

Also, Bairstow needs 31 runs in the second innings to hit 1500 test runs for the year, what a beast. Only happened 8 times ever, and he's just the second keeper to top 1,000 (Flower, 1,045)
Root is surprisingly horrible at converting 50s into 100s though :o

Still gets a lottttt of runs regardless

Shane Warne. But that was weight related ;)

Fast bowlers generally don't. Kallis spent his time at 2nd slip, Anderson was used at slip back when Swann was bowling, as Cook, Struass, Bell would be under the lid, and Swann who was a slip fielder as well was bowling, which left Jimmy.

Root doing a Watto? :-\ Bloke is great but geez it's annoying to have won the toss more times than not this innings and to be 3-0 down :(

On my phone, I just completely changed subject mid sentence there :o

Root needs to convert his 50s into 100s, something Watson couldn't do.

It's annoying watching England bat well in the 1st innings and still lose easily.

Doesn't Southee field at 3rd slip? Or maybe it's gully?

I can remember him taking some sharp chances in the test series last season

Rahul out for 199... ouch

I mean it's still 199 but 200 looks better

102.3 Rashid to Rahul, OUT, he's lobbed a catch to cover point and crumples up in a heap! Hands on his head. Into a crouch. Horrified at what he's done. It was a slow, loopy delivery, well wide of off stump. Rahul thought there was runs. He goes after it, thought it was overpitched, but it isn't. So it can turn. It can take a top-edge of sorts instead of the middle and balloons over to Buttler. Has to drag himself off the field, his hands still on his head, clutching the bat too. Brilliant innings.
