Worse. You could say that about any side in any sport if you took away their best player though. Bairstow, Stokes, and Ali in good batting form as well - didn't rack up 114 for the 5th wicket and 167* for the 6th wicket without help. Hopefully Ali can ton up on the second morning and Rooty can get to 200 and beyond.

A great stat though, this is the fourth captain in a row to ton up on their captaincy debut.

Batting first usually does well at Lords (much more than every other ground) so you'd imagine a draw would be a poor outcome.

I would have also accepted 'Rooted' :P

Jay

So Rabada is missing the second test because he said "flower off". We're lucky to have been able to field a team for the last two decades in that case :P

PowerBug

Seems pretty harsh if you ask me...

Jukes

He already had 3 demerits, this gave him 1 so he reached the four required for a suspension. Makes sense.

Gazza into the double digits, unprecedented!

Tonight is the night for runs :D (Hopefully)

PowerBug

This second test is a really good game. England having to work hard for every run, South Africa bowling good areas and the pitch is not a road :)

Lazy 1408 runs for 21 wickets so far this series (three innings) for India

Dhawan, Rahane, and Pujara (two) with 130+ scores and Kohli with an unbeaten ton, with plenty of fifties around there.

#853
A bit under 450 more runs for Cooky and he'll pass Lara, Chanderpaul, and Jayawardene into sixth all-time (and he's still going in this first innings, for now). 900 runs to pass Sangakkara into fifth, 1850 to pass Ponting into second (could he do it by the end of 2019?), but still a good 4500 to take the all-time lead (he's only 32 after all!).

Only taken him 11 years to get to where he is too, the guys with more runs than Cooky had careers that went for 24, 17, 18, 16, 15, 16, 21, and 17 years. Hopefully he still has a good half-decade left in him so he can give Sachin's crown a good chase.

A few more big tons (and hopefully double tons - on 192* atm) will certainly help his cause.

PowerBug

Just gotta schedule more home WI, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka tours and he will Coast it home :D
