CARLTON ruckman Matthew Kreuzer will have surgery on his injured foot which is likely to keep him out for between 12 and 14 weeks.

Kreuzer pulled up sore after Carlton's opening round clash with Port Adelaide, and was a late withdrawal against Richmond last Thursday night.

The 24-year-old has trained this week, but is still experiencing pain in the foot that he had surgery on at the end of 2013.

Carlton's football operations manager Andrew McKay says Kreuzer's foot isn't healing as expected.

"We have been monitoring Matthew's foot this week and although he has managed to participate in training, he is still experiencing significant pain," McKay said.
