Bachar Houli wanted to be traded to Richmond but the Bombers refused to accept the deal they were offered, so they let him walk for nothing. Surely they aren't stupid enough to let it happen again.
well they dealt monfires for a 3rd rounder last season
Yeah but they clearly underrated Mons, then he stars back home!
nah think it wasn't underrating it was monfries been a great servant so were happy to send him home as port willing to pay alot more and more years then we were prepared too

He has almost identical stats now as he did at Essendon :P

I think St Kilda will the biggest threat if Crameri walks to the PSD. GWS and Melb don't need forwards and St Kilda just love crashing our party.

We'll end up swapping pick 40 for 45 I think, which doesn't really matter much. We may as well just give in. 22 will be 26 after free agency compo picks. 26 and 44 for Crameri and 49 is still a pretty good deal for us.

We don't need to draft anyone special with our 3rd rounder. We've had a good haul in the last few years and we have FIVE father/sons available next year.

I knew you had one or two F/S picks next year, didn't realise it was 5.  :o

Didn't realise it was 5 either. Wallis, Cordy and?
Jayden Foster, Zaine Cordy, Josh Wallis, Darcy Macpherson and Jacob Smith all available as Father/Son picks next year if the list (they're all the potential picks apparently :o) I found is right. I knew about Zaine and Josh Wallis... had no clue about the others. Foster could have been taken this year apaprently.  :o

So why was Monfries let go so easily? He wanted to come home?

So why was Monfries let go so easily? He wanted to come home?

It's about what he's worth. The reason that his average goals increased (and why Port did so well) was because the midfield became significantly better and Monfries had Schulz draw lots of attention away from his opponent.

Other than that he's a solid, albeit average player

Well my statistics say that (bar goals increased in 2013) that he has averaged the same Footy stats for 7 years of his career  :P

Can probably cross about half of those as ever becoming Footballers but that's certainly a lot of them  :o

Jarvis Murphy has to become a footballer purely because he's got the best name going around.

'
Monfries was a free agent last year. He was always leaving Essendon and was always going to Port and could of through free agency.

Port were losing Chaplin and Pearce through free agency and if they picked up Monfries as a free agent they would have got a lower compensation pick than what they eventually did. Also as Essendon secured Goddard through free agency they would have received no compensation for Monfries leaving as a free agent

Therefore the two teams negotiated a trade, Port's third round draft pick (48) which was a win-win for both clubs

Port got Monfries and kept the full compensation for losing Chaplin and Pearce
Essendon got a draft pick instead of nothing

The Bulldogs' Picks 26 and 42 are set to be sent to the Bombers in exchange for Stewart Crameri and pick 66 according to the Herald Sun.
