13 Daniel Talia
Tall Defender. 194cm, 89kg

Why they made this pick:
They get someone who can be a star tall, probably in the back line. Bock picked up a few injuries, and that club-imposed indefinite suspension that lasted a week, during season 2009 so another player who can play against big centre half forwards is needed. Talia could also be a lot more ready to play in 2010 than most of the other tall players in the draft.

Other options the club had at this selection:
Luke Tapscott would have made sense, adding to their midfield. He is also from SA, not that the Crows lose many players who want to return to their home state. Jake Carlisle may have been another tall option, but some injury concerns with him may have made Talia the preferred pick if the Crows had thought the two players were close in ability.

Players picked in this spot in previous drafts:
Tom Lynch, Brad Ebert, Jack Riewoldt

29 Jack Gunston
Tall Defender. 191cm, 74kg

Why they made this pick:
Maybe the first pick was someone to backup Bock, and this one is for depth behind Rutten. They may have another plan for Gunston, maybe they develop him as a forward.

Other options the club had at this selection:
Max Gawn would have been another project player to consider, but for the ruck where the Crows haven't been great since Rehn left. David Astbury may have been another tall that the Crows were looking at.

Players picked in this spot in previous drafts:
Dayne Beams, Brendan Whitecross, Eric MacKenzie

45 Sam Shaw
Tall Defender. 191cm, 80kg

Why they made this pick:
They must be really worried about their back line. But after using another pick on a potential tall defender that area of their list should now be a strength.

Other options the club had at this selection:
Jesse Crichton could have been a useful midfielder to pick here. Ruckman Fitzpatrick was also still available.

Players picked in this spot in previous drafts:
Jarrad Blight, Stuart Dew, Brennan Stack

61 James Craig
Tall Forward/Ruckman. 195cm, 92kg

Why they made this pick:
They were probably surprised he was still around, as Craig was expected to be drafted a bit earlier. The ruck and centre half forward can be a problem spot for the Crows, so Craig could be useful for them.

Other options the club had at this selection:
Jack Hannath and Matthew Panos were other players to consider here.

Players picked in this spot in previous drafts:
Campbell Heath, Jaxson Barham, Josh Hill

How it works with recent drafts by the club:
Looking at last year when most of the picks were tall players as well as Sloane who is a midfielder, this draft is a lot of the same. Davis and Talia could be competing for the same spot, McKernan and Craig are both ruckmen/forwards, the Crows have plenty of young height.
