Time for another mini award and this time it is another statistical award.
This award is the Highest Average award.

This award goes to the player who averaged the most points in the games they played in, excluding penalties and bonuses from WXV scoring.

Remember, the winner of this award isn’t guaranteed to win the B&F because as we all know, every dog has his day.

Cairo Sands   23.14.152  def.  18.14.122   New Delhi Tigers

After 5 weeks for our second win of the season, it came in spectacular fashion, sending the Tigers back to New Delhi with their tails between their legs. The whole team played as one and really performed, except Paul Puopolo who played to the nickname he had been given by teammates of “PooPoo”.

Round 10

The Sands carried through to round 10’s game the momentum from their last big win  the week before. It was a scrappy affair that was a tough battle for both teams though that extra spark was found from the big man in the ruck, Todd Goldstein, who helped lift the Sands to a 14 point win.

The match against fellow cellar dwellers, Dublin Destroyers, could not have come at a better time for our boys from Cairo. Fresh from back-to-back wins, the Sands easily dispatched the destroyers and may have sunk their battleship in the process. :P

This was the match of the season for all those involved in the Sands organisation. Not only was it a big win to keep the, now, 4 game winning streak alive, but it also was the highest total scored for the round. The forward line led from the front keeping the affair to high scoring for the once birds of prey.

The third and final mini award is the Coaches’ Award.

This award is presented to the player that the coach deems has completed their role to the best of their ability and for the effort they put in on the training ground. They don’t have to be the biggest name or the best player, just whoever does their job well.

The winner of the Coaches’ award is:
Sean Dempster.
Drafted in the 33rd round and averaging 83.9ppg as a key backman, Dempster has been outstanding this season and an exemplary member of the Cairo Sands.

After being on a high from the 4 game winning streak, the boys crashed back down to earth with another close but disappointing loss. Very few players played to their full capabilities and those special few that did could not overcome the Islanders on their own

It seemed to be the tale of the season, show some fight for very small portions of the game and forget to play the rest. This was the story of the Round 14 clash against the Armadillos. Leigh Montagna tried to lead the team as he had helped do last week, but it was to no avail as the team went down by 21 points.

After so many poor performances, allegations of tanking were thrown around the confines of the WXV Headquarters because of the nature of such a high calibre side being consistently outplayed. In a press conference dismissing these allegations, coach MajorLazer remarked, “Tanking? We are playing so bad I wish I could call it tanking.”

Cairo Sands   22.10.142  def.  20.7.127   Berlin Brewers

In this penultimate match, the Sands managed to snag their last win of the season against similarly struggling Brewers. The cream rose to the top in this win with veteran Leigh Montagna once again trying to lead by example. He wouldn;t have had such a great day without the help of big man Todd Goldstein, who expertly tapped the ball into the path of the midfielder time and time again.

Unfortunately for the coach, players and the whole Sands organisation, 2012 was not the greatest of campaigns. It was capped off with a shocker of a last round, where the desperation of a finals berth lead the Magpies to a dominating 45 point victory.

Also, you kinda stuffed up the alphabetical order of it by putting New York and New Delhi before Moscow and Mexico City.
