Round 13

Rising Star

Dublin make it 2 in a row! Congratulations to Brodie Kemp (73) to winning the nomination, despite (like Gibcus) playing in a heavy loss. The future is bright at Dublin!

Team of the Week

He's done it again! Cairo's Tom Stewart (161) leads the team (either as a C, CC or VC) for the 3rd, but probably last time of the year, as he faces a lengthy suspension.

The defenders clearly took my criticism last week to heart, DOMINATING the top scores of the week to post 3 of the top 6 individual scorers, as well as a whopping 9 of the top 17! The top 4 were your usual suspects, likewise in the mids. Toronto's RoMa made his annual claim of R1, joined by fellow rucks Witts (Pacific) and Nankervis (Cape Town). The most unusual line was by far the forward line - whilst PNLs Brodie has been a regular fixture, Berlin's Luke Jackson and Darcy Fogarty together with Seoul's Rhylee West certainly added a unique flavour.

D: Tom Stewart [C] (Cairo), Aaron Hall (Mexico City), Jake Lloyd (New Delhi), Daniel Rich (Rio de Janeiro)
M: Rory Laird [VC] (Pacific), Clayton Oliver (Seoul), Sam Walsh (Mexico City), Marcus Bontempelli (Pacific)
R: Rowan Marshall (Toronto)
F: Will Brodie (PNL), Luke Jackson (Berlin), Rhylee West (Seoul), Darcy Fogarty (Berlin)
U: Jarrod Witts (Pacific), Toby Nankervis (Cape Town)

Coach: upthemaidens (Pacific)

Round 14

Rising Star

He was part of a great win for his club this week, and unlike the 7 players ahead of him, he did it in the 1s! Congratulations to New York's Max Holmes (65).

Team of the Week

There is a few midfielders very stiff to have missed out this week, such was the prowess on display! Much to my delight, Petracca (Mexico City) and Oliver (Seoul) lead the team superbly, followed by mids Warner, Touk and Langdon. New Delhi's defence was awesome this week, boasting both D1 and D2 in addition to Ed Langdon to cap off a fine week for the team.

Petracca, Sicily and Pk lead a strong Mexico City contingent, whilst Tokyo also had 3 players of their own in Cameron, Rioli and Libba.

D: Jack Sinclair (New Delhi), Jordan Dawson (New Delhi), James Sicily (Mexico City), Bailey Dale (New York)
M: Christian Petracca [C] (Mexico City), Clayton Oliver [VC] (Seoul), Chad Warner (Cape Town), Touk Miller (London)
R: Reilly O'Brien (Buenos Aires)
F: Charlie Cameron (Tokyo), Tom Hawkins (Beijing), Daniel Rioli (Tokyo), Mitch Duncan (Cape Town)
U: Ed Langdon (New Delhi), Tom Liberatore (Tokyo)

Coach: Pkbaldy (Mexico City)

Round 15

Rising Star

A rising star nomination on his WXV debut! Congratulations to Christchurch's Jase Burgoyne (68), contributing nicely to the 1s unlike Durdin (82), Ralphsmith (71) and Maginness (70).

Team of the Week

Funny how the highest scoring team of the year so far only just now top scores for the week! Congratulations to Jukes, Torp and Rome and the 3 reps in the TOTW! One of which - Connor Rozee (154) is deputy to fellow forward and Mexico City player Shai Bolton (162), whom makes his captaincy debut!

It was a round where mids and forwards dominated, making up the top 10 scorers of the round. Dyril (Tokyo) made it 2 in a row, as did Touk (London), whilst Goldstein (PNL) turned back the clock and claimed his oh-so-familiar R1 spot.

D: Sam Docherty (Rome), Shannon Hurn (Buenos Aires), Daniel Rioli (Tokyo), Nick Hind (London)
M: Noah Anderson (New Delhi), Luke Davies-Uniacke (Mexico City), Zach Merrett (PNL), Callum Mills (Cape Town)
R: Todd Goldstein (PNL)
F: Shai Bolton [C] (Mexico City), Connor Rozee [VC] (Rome), Charlie Curnow (Seoul), Dylan Moore (Rome)
U: Jed Anderson (New York), Touk Miller (London)

Co-coaches: Jukes & Torp (Rome)

Round 16

Rising Star

Another rising star nomination on his WXV debut, AND AFL debut! Congratulations to Rome coach favourite Tyler Sonsie (59), being part of a devastatingly powerful by the Gladiators led by fellow Rising star nominee Nick Daicos (163).

This brings the Gladiators 2022 nominations to 5! Dow, Daicos, Carrol, Chapman and now Sonsie. What a team the Gladiators have assembled!

Team of the Week

A very odd TOTW! Look at those names! Captain Bont - no surprises there - and Laird, Goldy and Vlastuin has made a few, but other than that it's full of first timers or 'occasional' names. Nick Daicos at VC is just f**ked, Sam Berry in F2, Zurhaar at F3 and Coleman at F4 is also bizarre. In fact, the highest scoring forward this week was the 18th highest scoring player, signifying a bad week for the goal-kickers.

5 Rising star noms, 2 in the TOTW and back-to-back 165+ scores? You better believe Jukes and Torp at the coaches of the week.

D: Mason Redman (Christchurch), Thomas Barrass (New Delhi), Nick Vlastuin (Cairo), Robbie Fox (New Delhi)
M: Marcus Bontempelli [C] (Pacific), Nick Daicos [VC] (Rome), Rory Laird (Pacific), Hugh McCluggage (Cairo)
R: Todd Goldstein (PNL)
F: Harrison Himmelberg (Pacific), Sam Berry (Rome), Cameron Zurhaar (Berlin), Keidean Coleman (London)
U: Chad Warner (Cape Town), Dylan Shiel (Beijing)

Co-coaches: Jukes & Torp (Rome)

Round 17

Rising Star

Some bright spots emerged in Cairo's last game and win of the year, winning the Africonia cup and having Josh Ward (72) play a part in it, giving the Sands a nominee for the award in 2022.

Team of the Week

So close to a perfect 15! Seoul's Jack Gunston was in the 2s, and PNL's Zach Merrett was a surplus mid, otherwise all other members scored in the top 17 players for the week. It's a fairly typical XV, with Bont and Touk leading the charge. Sam Berry has made it back-to-back noms, whilst Hayden Young earned an uncommon appearance at D1. Also good to see Max at R1, as always  ;)

UTMs Islanders are certainly looking ominous, with another COTW and 3 players in the TOTW.

D: Hayden Young (Mexico City), Adam Saad (London), Thomas Barrass (New Delhi), Luke Ryan (PNL)
M: Marcus Bontempelli [C] (Pacific), Touk Miller [VC] (London), Brad Crouch (Rio de Janeiro), Jack Steele (Seoul)
R: Max Gawn (Berlin)
F: Tom Hawkins (Beijing), Sam Berry (Rome), Charlie Dixon (Seoul), Harrison Himmelberg (Pacific)
U: Rory Laird (Pacific), Noah Anderson (New Delhi)

Coach: upthemaidens (Pacific)
