To be eligible to be nominated for the award, a player must be younger than 21 years of age on 1 January of the award year and have played 10 or fewer senior games before the beginning of the season.

Round 1

Rising Star

If you have enough WXV debutants, one of them is bound to get the nom right? Regardless, it didn't make Toronto's Jai Newcombe's (119) any less impressive, edging out teammate Rachele (118) and 3 more of his teammates.

Team of the Week

I don't recall the last time the top 6 highest scorers were all midfielders... which makes this time quite fearsome really! Rome's Luke Parker (167) led all comers, with Buenos Aires young gun Tom Green (164) close behind. Parker had 2 more of his teammates join him, whilst coach of the week FTC was joined by Boak and Heeney at Toronto.

Funnily enough, Jack Hayes who is currently residing in no-mans land would have made the team if he played, likewise Beijing's Tyson Stengle. It was also odd to see the best ruck so low in the scores, with Witts coming in at #20 for the week.

D: Dan Houston (Rome), Sam Docherty (Rome), Adam Saad (London), George Hewett (Christchurch)
M: Luke Parker [C] (Rome), Tom Green [VC] (Buenos Aires), Christian Petracca (Mexico City), Matt Rowell (Seoul)
R: Jarrod Witts (Pacific)
F: Tom Hawkins (Beijing), Isaac Heeney (Toronto), Timothy English (London), Tim Taranto (Rio de Janeiro)
U: Patrick Dangerfield (Seoul), Travis Boak (Toronto)

Round 2

Rising Star

It was just a matter of time before New Delhi sensation Jason Horne-Francis (98) was nominated. But jeepers - I don't recall such a commanding score denied selection in Toronto's Jake Bowey (151). Buenos Aires Jack Ginnivan (119) also would have a got a nom if he played, but JHF was the one that delivered in the seniors.

Team of the Week

The 1-2 punch of Beiijing's Neale (198) and Dublin's Brayshaw (189) will be hard to top this year! They lead another mighty midfield performance in the TOTW. In the 2 rounds so far, not many rucks have scored anything notable, so it was good to see Berlin's Luke Jackson (137) do something about that. The first TOTW representation of many for him.

Quite a few teams represented in this TOTW, with Rio, Toronto, Dublin and PNL rocking 2 representatives each. Coach FTC makes it two-in-a-row for Coach of the Week - to do it first up in the season is bloody impressive!

D: Luke Ryan (PNL), Jayden Short (Buenos Aires), Isaac Cumming (Rio de Janeiro), Daniel Rich (Rio de Janeiro)
M: Lachie Neale [C] (Beijing), Andrew Brayshaw [VC] (Dublin), Patrick Cripps (Seoul), Travis Boak (Toronto)
R: Luke Jackson (Berlin)
F: Isaac Heeney (Toronto), Bradley Close (New York), Zak Butters (New Delhi), Tristan Xerri (Dublin)
U: Ben Keays (PNL), Callum Mills (Cape Town)

Coach: fanTCfool (Toronto)

Round 3

Rising Star

A few surprises this week, starting with a player with a lesser-profile than some other eligible players taking out the nomination this week. Rome's Thomson Dow (100) was the only one to raise the bat out of the eligible pool, ahead of Rome teammate Heath Chapman (97) and New York's Max Holmes (93).

Team of the Week

2018 called and wants its gun fantasy players back! Angus Brayshaw (176) wound back the clock to his more fantasy conducive days to lead the TOTW, followed by veteran gun Shannon Hurn (156) whom seems primed to assist the Dillos quest for its maiden flag. It was a reasonably docile week otherwise, with an even smattering of high scorers across the lines. ROB snuck in as 15th man as ruck, putting English in the forward line. Unfamiliar faces Nathan Broad, Brad Crouch and to a lesser extent Stephen Coniglio followed Brayshaw's lead in mixing the TOTW up a bit. Travis Boak isn't following the memo however, having featured EVERY week so far.

UTM takes out the COTW gong, with a reasonably tame score of 149  :o

D: Shannon Hurn [VC] (Buenos Aires), Nathan Broad (Toronto), Jeremy McGovern (Berlin), Jordan Dawson (New Delhi)
M: Angus Brayshaw [C] (New Delhi), Tom Green (Buenos Aires), Clayton Oliver (Seoul), Jarryd Lyons (Pacific)
R: Reilly O'Brien (Buenos Aires)
F: Timothy English (London), Stephen Coniglio (Beijing), Josh Dunkley (Tokyo), Zac Bailey (Pacific),
U: Travis Boak (Toronto), Brad Crouch (Rio de Janeiro)

Coach: upthemaidens (Pacific)

#5
Round 4

Rising Star

It's the second week in a row Rome's Heath Chapman came runner-up to the rising star nom, AGAIN to a teammate! The nomination of Rome's Nick Daicos (125) was inevitable. He's a gun; enough said really.

This was one the best weeks to be a rising star eligible player in recent memory, with a whopping 5 players getting centuries! (Nick Daicos, Heath Chapman, Braeden Campbell, Josh Rachele, Nathan O'Driscoll)

Team of the Week

We have a unique mix of familiar and unfamiliar faces in this TOTW! The familiar? Max Gawn as captain, Jack Macrae as vice, Crisp down back, Bont and Mills in the guts, as well as Laird (but normally as a defender). The unfamiliar? Stephenson, Brodie and Jackson were huge up forward, as was Sinclair down back.

But most familiar has been FTC as the coach once again, earning it 3 out of 4 rounds so far  :o

D: Sam Docherty (Rome), Jack Sinclair (New Delhi), Zac Williams (Tokyo), Jack Crisp (Seoul)
M: Jack Macrae [VC] (Toronto), Rory Laird (Pacific), Marcus Bontempelli (Pacific), Callum Mills (Cape Town)
R: Max Gawn [C] (Berlin)
F: Jaidyn Stephenson (Cape Town), Will Brodie (PNL), Isaac Heeney (Toronto), Luke Jackson (Berlin)
U: Jarrod Witts (Pacific), Adam Saad (London)

Coach: fanTCfool (Toronto)

Round 5

Rising Star

This week we celebrate everything... me! As I mentioned in Discord, Ben Ronke's 7 goals at the MCG in Round 8 of 2018 was the last time Berlin had a rising star nomination... until now! Nathan O'Driscoll (103) was head and shoulders above the rest which... surprisingly the next best eligible score from the seniors was Josh Rachele's 49. But yay Noddy!

Team of the Week

The boys really did it for their embattled coach, going from winless in 2022 to Round 5's coach of the week! I'm just that good. As such, 4 Brewers feature in the TOTW, whom is lead by Toronto's Jack Macrae and my own Joel Selwood. In fact, there was a certain vintage about this week's top scorers, featuring Selwood, Heppell, Ward, Zorko, May and Mitchell.

Hayden McLean surely gets a game next week for Christchurch, having missed out on a would-be F4.

D: Dyson Heppell (Beijing), Alex Witherden (Toronto), Steven May (Berlin), Tom Stewart (Cairo)
M: Jack Macrae [C] (Toronto), Joel Selwood [VC] (Berlin), Tom Mitchell (Pacific), Bailey Smith (Dublin)
R: Max Gawn (Berlin)
F: Timothy English (London), Zak Butters (New Delhi), Aaron Naughton (Mexico City), Jordan De Goey (Buenos Aires)
U: Callan Ward (Berlin), Dayne Zorko (Beijing)

Coach: Purple 77 (Berlin)

Round 6

Rising Star

At long last! Toronto dynamo Jake Bowey (106) gets a much anticipated Rising Star nom, joining teammate Jai Newcombe as rising star nominees for Toronto. The next best was Dublin's Josh Gibcus (102), but he was stuck in the 2s.

Team of the Week

He was the Round 1 Word Idol elimination with a sub 1000 score, but he is the Coach of the Week in Round 6! GLs Cape Town has been a rollercoaster ride in 2022 with a scoreline of 97, 146, 116, 141, 117 and 161. Expect nothing next week.

Cape Town was led by a monster performance by Callum Mills who cracked the double-ton for the first time in 2022. He is the odd one out in the midfield however, with THREE Seoul midfielders featuring along with defender Zach Tuohy. Tokyo themselves had 3 representatives headed by a blue moon performance from Ladhams, Pacific and Rome had 2 whilst Cairo, Toronto, Rio de Janeiro and Cape Town had 1. So only 8 teams featuring in this one!

D: Nick Vlastuin (Cairo), Alex Witherden (Toronto), Zach Tuohy (Seoul), Dan Houston (Rome)
M: Callum Mills [C] (Cape Town), Clayton Oliver [VC] (Seoul), Jack Steele (Seoul), Patrick Cripps (Seoul)
R: Jarrod Witts (Pacific)
F: Peter Ladhams (Tokyo), Connor Rozee (Rome), Josh Dunkley (Tokyo), Jeremy Finlayson (Rio de Janeiro)
U: Tom Liberatore (Tokyo), Zac Bailey (Pacific)

Coach: GoLions (Cape Town)

Purple 77

Round 7

Rising Star

They're 3rd in total points, and now they have 3 Rising Star nominations! Congratulations to Rome and its Jack Carroll (95) for taking out the Round 7 nomination. Interestingly enough, the homeless Nic Martin scored the most, alas, he'll have to wait til next year to play.

Team of the Week

Some VERY big scorers this week! Cairo's Tom Stewart and Beijing Lachie Neale co-captain the side with 187s, and Max Gawn was close behind with 172. We were critical of Cairo not putting the CC on Stewart - but it didn't work for Neale and Gawn, both CAPTAINING losses :(

It's one of the more standard TOTWs, with only perhaps TJ Lynch, Blicavs and Cumming making uncommon appearances. Nige makes one himself as a deserving Coach of the Week, whilst Rome features the most with 3 players

D: Tom Stewart [CC] (Cairo), Jayden Short (Buenos Aires), Mark Blicavs (New York), Isaac Cumming (Rio de Janeiro)
M: Lachie Neale [CC] (Beijing), Touk Miller (London), Josh Kelly (Rome), Luke Parker (Rome)
R: Max Gawn (Berlin)
F: Tom J Lynch (Cairo), Dylan Moore (Rome), Josh Dunkley (Tokyo), Shai Bolton (Mexico City)
U: Callum Mills (Cape Town), Patrick Cripps (Seoul)

Coach: Nige (Cairo)

Round 8

Rising Star

Another week, another Rome rising star nomination. He's been runner up a few times already, so congratulations to a well deserved and overdue nomination to Gladiator Heath Chapman (136), Rome's 4th of the year!

Team of the Week

Tom J Lynch backs up a huge score with an even bigger one! The Cairo forward leads this TOTW, followed closely by Christchurch sensation Sean Darcy.

Rising star nominee Heath Chapman leads the defence amongst some familiar faces, including veteran Shannon Hurn where Buenos Aires continues to get great value from. A special shoutout to new TOTWer Stengle, and also to former-regular Goldstein.

Congrats also to iZander for taking out his first coach-of-the-week gong!

D: Heath Chapman (Rome), Jordan Dawson (New Delhi), James Sicily (Mexico City), Shannon Hurn (Buenos Aires)
M: Hugh McCluggage (Cairo), Patrick Cripps (Seoul), Travis Boak (Toronto), Jack Macrae (Toronto)
R: Sean Darcy [VC] (Christchurch)
F: Tom J Lynch [C] (Cairo), Charlie Curnow (Seoul), Aaron Naughton (Mexico City), Tyson Stengle (Beijing)
U: Todd Goldstein (PNL), Darcy Parish (Buenos Aires)

Coach: iZander (Buenos Aires)

Purple 77

Round 9

Rising Star

A comparatively tame Rising Star nomination this week, but if you take a look at him, he is anything but. Congratulations to Christchurch coaches pet Lachlan Jones (69) for putting it together in the 1s. Buenos Aires would rue its missed opportunity to get occasionally used Corey Durdin (76) on the board!

Team of the Week

This is perhaps one of the least impressive TOTW, certainly in terms of bookends! Still, you had Cape Town captain Callum Mills (167) lead superbly from the front yet again, followed by Rome mid Josh Kelly (156), and 4 other mids to make 6 of top 7 scorers of the week. The best non-mid was New Delhi ruck Oscar McInerney, and the relative dearth of star forwards and defenders has seen uniques in Berlin's Sam Powell-Pepper and Cape Town's Griffin Logue feature.

It seems strange that he hasn't already hit the gong yet, but reigning premiership and Round 9 coach Pkbaldy brought 3 players along with him in this TOTW, as did Rome.

D: James Sicily (Mexico City), George Hewett (Christchurch), Jacob Weitering (Mexico City), Griffin Logue (Cape Town)
M: Callum Mills [C] (Cape Town), Josh Kelly [VC] (Rome), Ollie Wines (Buenos Aires), Sam Walsh (Mexico City)
R: Oscar McInerney (New Delhi)
F: Adam Treloar (Rome), Sam Powell-Pepper (Berlin), Errol Gulden (Rome), Tom J Lynch (Cairo)
U: Bailey Smith (Dublin), Rory Laird (Pacific)

Coach: Pkbaldy (Mexico City)

Purple 77

Round 10

Rising Star

We have co-nominations this week! The first is ayoung star at PNL who has been building nicely as the year has progressed, and now culminating in a well earned rising star nomination. On the other end of the field, former Berlin now Seoul key forward turned serious heads on the weekend kicking 3.3. Congratulations to PNLs Sam De Koning and Seoul's Logan McDonald (85 each)

Team of the Week

A defenders dream this week, with 4 of the top 7 scorers (12 of top 30) coming from the stoppers. In terms of pure midfielders, it was Seoul and Round 10 captain Clarry (178) then daylight, with the next best in Sam Walsh coming in at the 12th highest score for the week! Speaking of Walsh, he is starting to heat up along with his team, where he and Brad Hill earned Pk and consecutive coaching gig!

Shout out to the irregulars in Perryman, Hill, Cameron, Curnow and Baker.

D: Dan Houston (Rome), Jack Sinclair (New Delhi), Harry Perryman (Pacific), Bradley Hill (Mexico City)
M: Clayton Oliver [C] (Seoul), Sam Walsh (Mexico City), Marcus Bontempelli (Pacific), Tom Mitchell (Pacific)
R: Toby Nankervis (Cape Town)
F: Will Brodie [VC] (PNL), Stephen Coniglio (Beijing), Darcy Cameron (PNL), Charlie Curnow (Seoul)
U: Liam Baker (London), Sean Darcy (Christchurch)

Coach: Pkbaldy (Mexico City)

Purple 77

Round 11

Rising Star

He hasn't had many good scores this year and was only named because there was no one else, but New Delhi's Sam Durham (99) performed beautifully for New Delhi in the absence of its key players. Hugo Ralphsmith (101) was stuck in the 2s, whilst Armadillo Joel Jeffrey (93) is starting to make a case for himself too.

Team of the Week

We were SO CLOSE to have a perfect 15 i.e. the top 15 overall scorers of the week. We had the top 14 in there but needed 17th overall (Jack Graham) to take the last forward spot. It'll happen one day.

ROB got his schedule mixed up - someone told him AAP were playing this weekend, rather than next weekend! His 175 edged out Cairo's Tom Stewart (174) for C honours, which wouldn't have been for the first time this year. Tim Kelly and Luke McDonald make rare appearances in the middle, likewise Jed Anderson in the forward line, whilst rucks ROB, Sean Darcy and Toby Nankervis all feature.

Congratulations as well to the good guys at PNL for being co-coaches of the week for the first time in 2022! Luke Ryan clearly the coaches favourite, the only Reindeer to feature in the TOTW.

D: Tom Stewart [VC] (Cairo), James Sicily (Mexico City), Luke Ryan (PNL), Jack Sinclair (New Delhi)
M: Lachie Neale (Beijing), Darcy Parish (Buenos Aires), Tim Kelly (Toronto), Luke McDonald (Cape Town)
R: Reilly O'Brien [C] (Buenos Aires)
F: Timothy English (London), Jed Anderson (New York), Josh Dunkley (Tokyo), Jack Graham (Christchurch)
U: Sean Darcy (Christchurch), Toby Nankervis (Cape Town)

Co-coaches: DazBurg & Hellopplz (PNL)

Round 12

Thanks for your patience all - finally able to sit down and catch-up!

Rising Star

He may have been part of a belting at the hands of Pacific, nor did he score in the top 9 of 2022 rising star eligible pool, but dammit, he turned up in the 1s and faced it. Congratulations to Dublin's Josh Gibcus (68)!

Team of the Week

This team popped off! The top 6 players all scored 150+, led by Big Berlin Max (198) who also led the Brewers to victory. Pacific's Harry Himmelberg (187) had a field day against Dublin, Beijing's Stephen Coniglio (174) was the difference against New York, London's Touk (167) took it up to New Delhi, Rio's Jeremy Cameron (153) tested Rome's defence and Pacific's Tex followed Harry's lead.

The defence was the only lowlight, with only Rome's Sam Docherty (139) joining the party in the points fest.

Congratulations to UTM for posting the first eye watering 170+ score of the year to be the most worthy COTW so far this year.
