Good start to the season

Colorado Avalanche 15.9.99 lost to Wisconsin Cockerels 19.9.123
(Real: 1485 vs 1850)

Two teams that scored pretty much as you'd expect really. Macrae was his usual sensational best as captain, but a couple of scores in the 40s and Gawn not going huge cost Wisconsin the chance at an even bigger percentage boost. Debutants Bailey Scott and Willem Drew were very good for Colorado - setting a standard that their senior players will have to match.

Best
Colorado: Scott, Drew, Ebert
Wisconsin: Macrae, Saad, Zorko, Whitfield, O’Meara, Daniel, Shuey, Miller, Duncan

Carolina Panthers 18.9.117 lost to Las Vegas Sinners 20.6.126
(Real: 1756 vs 1892)

The Panthers were in with a big sniff all week long, until a brilliant performance from Nat Fyfe as captain got the Sinners home with ease. But the Sinners continued a trend from 2018 - having a few massive scores hiding a load of underperforming players as they had five 130+ scorers while a few of their stars (Franklin, De Goey, Powell-Pepper) sat in the low-50s. Bontempelli was even better than Fyfe, but Grundy going low was a big blow. I'm sure Carolina's 117 would have beaten a few of the winners this week...

Best
Carolina: Bontempelli, Tomlinson, Martin, Kelly, Menegola, Shiel
Las Vegas: Westhoff, Fyfe, Rockliff, Newman, Lloyd, Harmes

San Francisco Grizzlies 17.12.114 defeated Quito Quetzals 17.10.112
(Real: 1704 vs 1675)

A very close game that went down to the wire - with Brad Hill's heroics getting the home side over the line as CC Shaun Higgins just couldn't get the job done at the end. Coniglio as captain was the real matchwinner with 154, showing just how valuable picking the right captain can be. Coniglio covered up a lot of stinker scores for SFG - 6 under 55 (although that is an improvement on most weeks last year!). Hopper, McCluggage and Worpel showed the old farts how to do it with great scores for Quito but they just fell short.

Best
San Francisco: Coniglio, Hill, Hunter
Quito: Hopper, McCluggage, Worpel, Cameron

Boston Terriers 20.6.126 defeated Houston Bombers 17.13.115
(Real: 1897 vs 1719)

Rory Sloane certainly did come to play for the Bombers, registering a huge 155 as captain. Unfortunately for them, not many other players did go all out - not that it would have made too much of a difference against the highest score of the week so far. Boston didn't have too many massive scores but didn't have many passengers as they got the season off on the right note.

Best
Boston: Sheed, Neale, Laird, Goldstein, Dahlhaus
Houston: Sloane, Macmillan, Walters

Chicago Sharks 18.7.115 defeated Ottawa Otters 18.6.114
(Real: 1715 vs 1714)

Yikes, a one-point win/loss in the first round of the season! I've double and triple checked the scores and it checks out, with the Sharks narrowly getting over the line on HGA - Orazio you ripper! Chicago's fantastic backline (100, 108, 117, 139) won them the game as captain Oliver struggled. Phil Davis as sub (100) nearly won Ottawa the game but he fell, obviously, a point short. If we want a scapegoat or two - Bailey Smith (33) struggled on debut as he couldn't handle the pressure of the #2 pick (yet), and Liam Shiels could only manage 54.

Best
Chicago: Salem, Andrews, Fisher, Hurn, Polec, Sicily, Sinclair
Ottawa: Fiorini, Taranto, Treloar, McEvoy, Davis

New Brooklyn Hawks 20.9.129 defeated Anaheim Mighty Ducks 16.12.108
(Real: 1937 vs 1619)

The highest scoring team of round one, the NBH! They did this with a very poor end to the week as well from their four players in the Freo-North match. Matt Crouch was their best as VC, closely followed by captain Cripps - they looked on track for a 2000+ score before putting on the brakes a bit towards the end. Boak was the only Duck to ton up in a very mediocre display.

Best
Brooklyn: M. Crouch, Nankervis, Cripps, Berry, Steele, Houli, Gunston
Anaheim: Boak, Cotchin
