Previews

1st Elimination Final: New Brooklyn Hawks vs Houston Bombers
The Hawks the bottom of the top four teams, the Bombers the top of the three 9-8 sides. Should be an interesting affair. Houston scored 47 more points (705 more SC) in 2018 than the Hawks but won two less games (and that's with NBH getting a harder R17 draw due to being in the upper bracket). Acres coming back in could make or break the Hawks' season, while Cripps' score will be the backbone of the team as it has all season - and luckily for the Hawks he plays Gold Coast this week. Houston have shown the ability for massive scoring (such as a 136 despite having a player injured on 3) but often have failed to put consistent results on the table, with the form of players such as Sloane, Beams, and Crisp being quite erratic at times. They'll be hoping GC puts the hurt on Cripps allowing Houston's Simpson and Murphy to run loose, but I'll tip the Hawks to get up in a close one thanks to HGA.

2nd Elimination Final: Boston Terriers vs Anaheim Mighty Ducks
The two oldest sides in the comp go head-to-head in what should be a very good clash despite the three-win disparity in the standings. Boston will heavily count on Collingwood (Pendlebury C, Howe, and Sidebottom) and WA sides (Redden VC, Darling EVC, Sheed, Hughes, Neale, Langdon), meaning this game will certainly go well into Sunday's fixtures. Anaheim will as usual rely on kb's dons (Merrett VC, Heppell EVC, Hurley, Bellcho, Smith, McKenna) meaning they could be set for the semis or destroyed out of the blocks tonight! Here's hoping for set for the semis tbh with a good bombers victory over Sydney. Selwood vs Dangerfield will also be a great match-up, in a game that's very balanced on paper - but I'd back a Ducks upset, as revenge for both losses earlier in the season.

Qualifying Final: Wisconsin Cockerels vs Las Vegas Sinners

There is without a doubt one man that this game will be based around: Tom Mitchell. As with most Sinners matches this season, his score has determined whether they win or lose. That's not to say the rest of their team doesn't include stars (as opposed to Anaheim, they'll want a big Swans win tonight for Lloyd, Cunningham, and Franklin in particular), and of course not having Nat Fyfe as a VC doesn't help, but Mitchell will most likely determine a win or a loss. And he's playing Freo this week - will he destroy a poor team or will Bailey Banfield tag him and the Sinners into a loss? Wisconsin on the other hand have Jack Macrae back and firing, and they'll be hoping both he stays healthy and Port don't put the hurt on him and the dogs too badly. Max Gawn has been their (imho) MVP for 2018, but he goes up against Adelaide and Sam Jacobs in a pretty difficult matchup, and his coach knows it relegating him from leadership duties...Gawn being Gawn I'm sure he'll still top 90 if not 100, but that's still well short of what we know he's capable of. Wisconsin will be relying on their GC crew outside of Macrae and Gawn - Saad, May, Ablett, Miller, and O'Meara (yes I know only two of them still play for them), and hope Hayden Crozier's good form doesn't return to his true talent. Mitchell over/under to determine the result I'd say is about 150 - which is still stupidly high so I'll be tipping the Cockerels.

1st Elimination Final: New Brooklyn Hawks vs Houston Bombers

New Brooklyn Hawks 18.12.120 lost to Houston Bombers 18.15.123
(Real: 1804 vs 1845)

Really bad luck for the Hawks to lose despite a very good score, on the back of their leader Patrick Cripps (173). Aside from a few shining lights their team around Cripps was pretty poor, much like Carlton all 2018, with no backs or forwards able to crack 95 and a couple of sub-70 scores in the midfield. Houston were also lead very well, this time by Beams (143) while Murphy (152) was their highest scorer. Houston had two more centurions and put forward a really decent score that is deserving of an elimination final victory, but NBH were unlucky to lose this one.

Houston Bombers advance to the Semi Finals.
New Brooklyn Hawks will pick 7th in the draft.
Finals Champion: Patrick Cripps (NBH)

Best
Brooklyn: Cripps, Crouch, Milera, Membrey
Houston: Murphy, Beams, Simpson, Edwards, Greenwood, Riewoldt

2nd Elimination Final: Boston Terriers vs Anaheim Mighty Ducks

Boston Terriers 15.13.103 lost to Anaheim Mighty Ducks 18.10.118
(Real: 1545 vs 1765)

Anaheim were pretty decent - wouldn't have beaten our either elimination finallists (poor NBH), but it was way way enough to beat their competitors on the day, who were ruined by an awful backline - Laird 91, Howe 17, Lynch 37, McInerney (OOP) 39/2. Both teams pretty much named their best scorer as captain (well, the Ducks were a point off it) as Pendlebury and Dangerfield lead very well, while Dyson Heppell (See: GOAT) was the BOG. Howe's early injury set the tone for a poor Boston score, while Heppell, Merrett, Bellcho, and Smith (all 97+) set the standard for the Ducks' victory on the road.

Anaheim Mighty Ducks advance to the semi finals.
Boston Terriers will pick 8th in the draft.
Finals Champion: Dyson Heppell (AMD)

Best
Boston: Pendlebury, Wingard, Sidebottom, Neale, Goldstein
Anaheim: Heppell, Dangerfield, Burgoyne, Merrett, Bellchambers

Qualifying Final: Wisconsin Cockerels vs Las Vegas Sinners

Wisconsin Cockerels 20.14.134 defeated Las Vegas Sinners 17.12.114
(Real: 2019 vs 1716)

Their Swans players got the Sinners off to a horrible start and it only got worse from there, as they're well and truly trounced in this QF - luckily they have the double chance and will play next week and hopefully improve. Mitchell was great as usual, but he was massively let down by the rest of the team, with plenty of 40-70 scorers. Mitchell was the BOG but Macrae was just as important for Wisconsin (still peaking too early?), while Gawn had his usual 130+ (CD loves him) - but Steven May will probably miss the rest of the finals with suspension after crushing Ed Curnow.

Wisconsin Cockerels advance to the 2nd Semi Final.
Las Vegas Sinners advance to the 1st Semi Final.
Finals Champion: Tom Mitchell

Best
Wisconsin: Macrae, Ablett, Gawn, Zorko, May, Duncan, Curnow, Whitfield, Miller
Las Vegas: Mitchell, Lloyd, Gresham, Daw, Lyons

And with that I may as well make it official.

I'll be stepping down as coach of Boston - tbh I did it from about round 9 onward haha. Just wanted to say a big thanks to Jukes for all his work with the comp over the years, has been a great ride. I'm sure the comp will only get better with more active coaches on board.

Cheers boys 8)
