Was down in Mandurah today and had a look at some of the new draftees and second-year players in action. A bit of a summary for those who are interested:

It's not going to happen, but Cerra should play round one IMO. His composure in traffic is first class. I don't think I saw him miss a single target by hand or foot (no matter how much pressure he was under), but he also does all the dirty work. Would have laid the most tackles on the ground and won a stack of contested footy, also kicked two goals.

Tom North is a magnet. You can tell that him and Cerra are best mates, linking up together on numerous occasions. Won plenty of contested ball and was also very good on the spread. Bargain at pick 65.

Crowden is a bull. Extremely tough inside the contest and has a lovely left peg on him (kicked a nice long goal in the third quarter). Could easily come in and play a pressure forward role at AFL level without too much trouble.

Hugh Dixon has an uncanny resemblance to James Sicily. Kicked two goals and did some nice things. Deceptively quick and clean at ground level for his size.

Switkowski looked nippy and pressured quite well, but only kicked the one goal and didn't have a huge impact overall.

Meek is a monster but his face doesn't suit the body. Took a couple of nice contested grabs and competed all day.

Scotty Jones isn't exactly your modern day AFL ruckman but he can take a grab and is probably the most capable forward of all the rucks on our list. Good depth in case of an injury crisis in the ruck I suppose.

Darcy dominated the hitouts against Zac Clarke and followed up his work superbly. Love his mongrel. No impact up forward however which was a little disappointing. You can't fit him and Sandi in the same side but he's far too good for this level.

Cox had a shocker, dropped a couple of marks he would usually take and made some questionable decisions. Spent most of his time in defence and then got thrown up forward late. Will likely be spending the majority of the season at Peel with Pearce back in the side.

Tay Duman kicked 3 goals to HT and repeatedly zoned off to take intercept marks all day. Just a super intelligent footballer. Needs to put on a bit of weight before becoming a regular but we are certainly well stocked for rebounding defenders.

The only downer was Giro (who was on absolute fire) going down with a knee injury early in the first quarter. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious.

Thanks for that Ada. Hope we see a bit of Cerra and Crowden early on this year

Thanks for that Adam.I read on another site that Cox was singled out at 3/4 time for being weak and pulling out of a contest. If so, that wont go down well with Lyon.

Geez only the 10 touches from Tommy Sheridan is a worry, did he have limited game time? 10 possies aginst WAFL level opposition in an 8 goal win isn't ideal from a former first round draft pick coming into his 7th season.

Big fan of North though, hopefully he can break through for a gig. Cerra and Brayshaw will be such a good combo in future it seems

Don't think so, played mainly at half-forward and had short stints through the middle but he just couldn't get near it. It's a make or break year for Tommy, looks like we're trying to find different roles for him given he's now a long way down the pecking order for midfielders/wings at the club. I think he's goneski at seasons end.

Koop
