I'd only want to be fielding 1 of those spud forward rookies and have 3 of them max.

Whilst Brayshaw and Brodie are more expensive I'm thinking 80+ isn't out of the question for either of them.

They'll be a quick money maker and then Bam gone. The forward rooks might make more cash but it'll be a slower burn making the whole process of upgrading a slower task.

Fwiw I'm going Byrne and then 4 of Doedee/Keefe/Murray/Finlayson/Coff/Naughton

Brodie + Brayshaw and then all of Banfield/Kelly/Holman and then 3 of Fritsch/Langdon/Ryan/Garlett/Venables/Rioli of which I have the first 3.

Byrne is a funny one for me. Does he really have the JS we need to fork out the extra $60k over Naughton/Coffield? Plus even if he avgs 75, he won't make THAT much cash. He's one I look at in the pplayer list, think about, and then scroll further down cos I don't see his scoring or JS worth it.

My situation is fairly similar to wato's.  Going with one more rookie mid though.

Byrne, Coffield, Murray || Doedee, Finlayson
Brayshaw, Brodie, Kelly || Holman, Banfield, (Barry or Garlett or ?)
Fogarty || Fritsch, Langdon

$200k is a good sum of money.  About what I'd expect Naughton to make anyway.  I do think the JS is there for Byrne.  First time he's been properly healthy in a while.  But I also think Naughton has shown enough to be competing with him.  Will come down to how I feel on Thursday night ;D

Yeah, people forget that Byrne was best 22 comfortably in our side before his ACL. That backline included Simmo, Doc and Tuohy as small defenders. He struggled a bit last year but he lacked match practice and fitness considering he had no preseason (ACL was a mid year injury). History says he will put in some scores around the 50 mark but I would expect a big one to boost his BE and get the cash flowing. 65-70 average is what I'm expecting out of him and I would take it.

Simmo saying Venables will play plenty of midfield. I'm getting him in and fielding 2 rookies forward. Hopefully Keefe doesn't play so I can use him to loophole

Just going with one WCE forward cheapie and I prefer Ryan to Venables.

Agree with Mat, and this is why I like Byrne.

@FantasyFreako
Ciaran Byrne seems to be the go-to man, ranking No.1 for defensive half handball-receives and uncontested possessions at the Blues during #JLTSeries. #SuperCoach #AFLFantasy

He’s 229k... no way.

Mat0369

He's 20k more than Rayner. His weakness is in the air and holding onto marks, but when the ball hits the ground he is super clean, has pace, vision and can use it well. I've got him locked at D3 with what appears to be an abundance of rookies in defense.

Byrne has the JS that a lot of the 170k defenders won't have, but at the end of the day he is probably just a bit too expensive for mine

Tom Cole is one I'm eyeing - should be able to cement a spot in our 22 and although he won't bang out big scores he should be able to average 60-70 and have better JS than most others in that price range, so at 60k cheaper than Byrne I'd probably favour him

duffercoat

Don't like the look of Byrne, simply costs too much. It doesn't take much for his cash generation to crash when you start at that price and with the inclusions of O'Shea and Mullet there's competition for his spot in the team.

Also starting to feel like we'll get a lot of forward rookies named round 1, even if they're not going to score well.

Stephenson, Fritsch, Ryan, Waterman, Venables, Garlett, Giles-Langdon all fairly likely.
Fogarty, Tiziani, Keeffe, Miers and Rose all a slim chance.

Now yeah these guys have hardly shown good scoring potential, but when they're all mostly around the 123k mark they're a lot more appealing to me than someone like Byrne who needs to score well to make cash.

Was in mine up until the JLT but I took him out because he was quiet. I didn't see much of the WCE games but can anyone explain his role?

Mirra looked good in Box Hill's practice match against Casey today. Lovell was ok but not great, don't see him playing for the first month at least. Worpel didn't play, but is ahead of Lovell atm comfortably.

Casey killed 'em, nfi who starred though in terms of rookies.

I read an article where they likened him to a Schuey type but at this point in his development & from the little I have seen he looks more like a pacy high half forward type. Impey, AhChee etc.
