PORT Adelaide senior coach Ken Hinkley has reported for work at Alberton Oval as normal amid increased speculation about his future.

News Corp reported on Monday that the 50-year-old had sought a release from his contract to head to a long-term deal to replace Rodney Eade at Gold Coast.

A Port Adelaide source told AFL.com.au Hinkley was at work, and going about his usual business conducting football reviews.

Port Adelaide insists its position hasn't changed, despite a weekend of behind-the-scenes jostling.

The Power said on Friday that Hinkley was contracted and he would be held to that contract, reaffirming their intention to seek to extend his tenure.

It comes amid reports that highly rated Sydney Swans assistant coach Stuart Dew has put his interest for the Suns' position on hold as he waits to see the outcome of the club's move on Hinkley.

The Swans say that Dew hasn't yet informed them he's out of the race.

Hinkley was an assistant coach at the Suns from 2010 to 2012, and has been at Port Adelaide for five seasons, having coached the team to 62 wins and 49 losses.

Hinkley will speak publicly in a radio interview on Adelaide radio station FiveAA at 4.30pm ACST.

His manager, Peter Blucher, has been contacted for comment

Further to this, Damien Barrett weighs in with his thoughts.

GOLD Coast seems confused about contracts.

In the Suns' eyes, it is unconscionable for superstar player Gary Ablett to attempt to break his contract with them for 2018, but fair business if they attempt to prise Ken Hinkley out of his contracted senior coaching position at Port Adelaide.

The Suns can't have it both ways. They have no right to assume a seat in the rarefied moral high-ground air on Ablett, and at the same time try to wreck another football club's well-established, documented plans.

The Australian newspaper reporting Hinkley has asked to be released from his contract as well , can't trust the media they get heaps wrong but where there is smoke there usually is fire

Yeah agree, the spray was wrong, think he realises he stuffed up. TBH, would like Ken to stay, but if goes he goes. Puts the Suns in a position then re Gaz breaking his contract for back to the Cats. Maybe Stewie would like to come home?  Worth a chance.

Yep agreed with all above. If we lose him would be happy with either Dew or Scotty Burns.

Media doesn't normally release something that big without it having some strong merit.

Ricochet

Looks more and more likely that he's gone doesn't it

Guess we'll know more when he gets on the radio in a few hours time

I like Ken at Port, feels like the right fit, and I don't think he is the answer for GC

McKenna, Eade etc are of similar mould, and it hasn't worked out

I reckon GC need someone a little younger, and someone who is intimidating and firm, like Dew

Could be right, but if he goes, hope Port go at Dewie for the next coach.

Dew was on the list for GC and interested but is waiting to see the Hinkley outcome so looks as though he is finally going to put his hand up he is over Dew  :P for a coaching position and think he would be a great get for Port.

Port Adelaide: Ken Hinkley has agreed to a 3yr contract extension with the Power via @FOXFootyLive

So maybe he was seeking a longer extension.
