2017 DRAFT WRAP

PICK 23: Brayden Ainsworth

PICK 34: Hamish Brayshaw

PICK 36: Andrew McPherson

ROOKIE 7: Isaac Cumming

Koop says: Dream start to the draft with Brayshaw slipping to Pick 7. Fogarty a risk we are happy to punt on in the hope that he develops into something very special in the next 3-5 years. Zac Bailey will probably start in the forward pocket but is a great reader of ruck taps and should transition into the midfield over the course of his career. Ainsworth and Brayshaw are both proven ball magnets, with Ainsworth having quite a bit of scope for improvement. McPherson missed the majority of his junior season with injury but is as cool as a cucumber coming out of the back half with the ball, and knows how to find it too.

Unfortunately, we would have drafted/traded very differently had we been aware of the list of available players. With our relative infancy to the comp we feel we were at a disadvantage as we were unaware of any spreadsheets existence. We both feel pretty strongly about it and that it should've restarted, but what's done is done. Lachlan Fogarty could turn out to be a gun and Cumming & Brayshaw a flop, but whats done is done. Cumming was recruited for defensive depth after a reasonable first season in the NEAFL and is highly-rated internally, while Marc Pittonet completes the majority of the Hawks ruck set.
