Daniher vs Cloke shoot-out - who can be less bad!

we'd invite Liam Jones but that'd make it unfair

Guest appearance, John Butcher!

kick both these teams out.

why not have some good clubs get a chance.

North v Hawks the two best Victorian teams of the last two years.

Because by the time they actually got it through and the teams changed all of norths team will have retired and they won't be a top team ;)

North will never get the big games because they don't draw the big crowds, simple as that

Hawthorn really should though.

part of the reason North dont draw crows is because they dont have big games. They will always have low numbers untill somebody takes a leap of faith.

In the last 20 years  Carlton Essendon Collingwood have two flags.  had enough of seeing them in prime time.

good to see they are getting taken off Friday night games. Its a good move for football.

There aren't that many big games to go around. Hawthorn get the Easter Monday game.
Norths membership numbers are enough to put the AFL off fixturing them for big games.
Richmond have had less recent success than all clubs but still drew the biggest crowd numbers for 2015. That's all the AFL care about at the end of the day

Cookie Monster

North have been trying to get a good friday game for a while which i believe will happen in the future.

When teams start saying we want to play on good friday and take over your idea then come back to this.

Essendon had the idea to play on ANZAC day and it turned out it was just against Collingwood that year and no matter how good or bad the teams are they still get the crowd so it won't change.

Same with dream time, and now Sheedy came up with the Country game idea too.

I like how Brayshaw is trying to get Good Friday and would be good to have a North v Hawks on that day too.

When you mentioned "The two best Victorian teams". I thought it would be good that the Grand Finalists from the previous year play on a certain date, it used to be round 1 but that changed after how good the Hawks v Cats rivalry took off!

Dennis Cometti has now jumped in for his piece of action re this.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/essendon/essendon-doesnt-deserve-to-play-on-anzac-day-says-dennis-cometti/news-story/edde9e67cd1565ba50afb3a003df759c
CHANNEL 7 commentator Dennis Cometti says Essendon has not earned the right to play on Anzac Day this season.

The popular caller has also suggested the Bombers should have been ruled out of the season altogether after 34 past and present players were banned for 12 months for using the banned drug Thymosin Beta 4.

The AFL has allowed the club to recruit 10 top-up players to field a team this year.

Writing a column in The West Australian, Cometti questioned why an alternative â€" a season without Essendon â€" wasn’t considered.

And he said even if the Bombers were allowed to play this year, they had forfeited the right to play Collingwood on Anzac Day.

The match threatens to be a blowout if Saturday’s NAB Challenge results are anything to go by. The undermanned Bombers kicked just three goals on the way to an 87-point loss to Geelong.

“What the heck are they doing playing in this year’s (Anzac Day) game?” Cometti said.

“Unfortunately, the players running around last Saturday don’t deserve the honour of being centre stage on one of footy’s biggest days.

“Of course, it’s too late to change anything. In this situation timing was everything. Certainly it made things difficult for the AFL.

“But I can’t help thinking somehow this year the Bombers should have been sidelined for the greater good.

“The club might cry double jeopardy but I find it odd no contingency plan ever saw the light of day.”

As a non-victorian i support the Dons and Pies playing on Anzac day.

They are the teams that started the tradition so they need to keep it going.

Going to get howled down here, but IMO being the 2nd biggest game of the year, reckon should be a replay of the last GF.

nrich102

Why is the ANZAC day game so big?* You could probably also argue that it's bigger than the GF considering its on 7 iirc, while every other game including finals is on mate.

*This is coming from someone who celebrates ANZAC day because it's a public holiday.

kilbluff1985

we had a bunch of our best 22 out and he is using that performance as an example
