The Carlton Football Club has today terminated the contract of player Josh Bootsma after it became apparent that he has breached the Club's and the AFL's Codes of Conduct.
The decision comes after a series of disciplinary issues with Bootsma that have compounded, and follows discussions with both Bootsma's management and the AFL Players Association.
Carlton was yesterday made aware that Bootsma had been engaging in inappropriate behaviour on social media.
The Club has been offering Bootsma counselling and welfare support to address his disciplinary issues, however he has failed to adhere to the standards expected and required.
Carlton's GM - Football Operations Andrew McKay says it's extremely disappointing.
"The Carlton Football Club has high expectations of its players and staff; we expect them to uphold certain standards," McKay said.
"The Club has attempted to offer Josh numerous forms of welfare and support in recent times, however he has continuously not lived up to the standards expected of a senior listed AFL player.
"This latest issue has left the Club with no other choice but to take this course of action.
"Carlton players and staff receive education on both social media policy and AFL Code of Conduct on a regular basis."
Carlton will continue to offer counselling and welfare support to Josh in the immediate future.
Media are asked to respect Bootsma and his young family's privacy at this time

A bit harsh to be sacked for something I am assuming a few other players do, then again it depends who he has been sending them to. It has been said he has a bad attitude and refuses to address it. You think if you were about to be having a kid you also wouldn't be sending dick pics to people on snap chat. He is obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed. When you add it all up the club probably had enough in the end

He wasn't sacked just because of the dick pics, he's had some off-field trouble before, this was just the last straw.

Tbh this whole thing sounds like a beat up. If it was Marc Murphy would they have sacked him? No chance.
I recall a few of the St.kilda stars passing around a 17 year old girl and taking "dick pics" and getting a slap on the wrist.
Clubs try and say that they punish everyone the same but they are full of shower. Some players are protected and others are tossed aside without a second thought

I meant round 1 last year, and round 2 and any other subsequent games after that.
After the Brock McLean incident and what has happened with the Saints in the past I take that it is a non negotiable at the club to misuse social media. There would be different penalties for different misuses, but obviously being a fringe player they decided to carry out the harsher penalty and sack him. This also is for a number of other reasons, but this is what sealed his fate.
He has had attitude issues all year and has been petulant at times in the VFL. Apparently reading the article the club had asked him to attend counselling and support groups for his issues which he hasn't done, he has had work ethic issues and an I can't give an F attitude when you watch him play at the lower level. So while another player might have just been suspended, they have gone a step further and sacked him.

The sad thing with Boots is he showed a lot of potential in his first season. I was at his first game against the Giants and he was cheered loudly every time he went near the ball. The next week Carlton played the Dees and he went hard at a contest colliding with Brad Green right below me. Green ended up going off the ground with broken ribs and didn't return. To see a guy of his size recklessly throw himself in harms way was brilliant. He had a nice run of games before he was eventually dropped after the Hawthorn game. He was abused physically by the bigger bodied Hawk opponents and Carlton were forced to sub him at HT he was struggling that bad. The next year there was the infamous run of games, this year he has played VFL all year, every time I have checked out a game he just looks like he couldn't give a flying F and didn't want to be there. His head is obviously not in it which sucks, his disposal was pretty good, he had decent pace, he read the ball well, he was hard at it, he just struggled physically on bigger opponents and obviously mentally. He could have been a very handy player if he was used in the right situation.

I am just watching the replay of 360, it was a accumulation of things and apparently there was a teenage girl involved in the photos Bootsma sent out, hence the sacking.
So he is dating a teenager, got her pregnant and her mother dobbed him in.
