There are some players that you should never think about considering your fantasy team whether it is off-field trouble or because they don't get game time or they don't get the ball. Here are some players that I consider to be spuds and I would laugh if I saw any team with those players ;D:
Presti (Great player, does his job week in, week out, but doesn't get the ball). ;D
W Thursfield
J King :-[
A Lovett (Sacked by St Kilda)
M Stokes (Suspended by club til rnd 9)
M Hurley (Court Case pending)
L Brown
K Bradley
H Playfair
S Rusling
R Murphy (Freo)
J Schulz
C Cloke
A Raines
Z Dawson
S O'Hailpin
B Reid
C Wood
Does Anyone else have any other spuds they would like to add to the list?
haha okay good list the funny thing is half of my best friends team is in there
no one i can add good work
don't mind presti. i know some people who park him as 4th defender so they never get a 0 :D
I Agree that Presti is very consistent dter. (Consistently bad :D)
Yeah, Alright Darren Glass, Jared Rivers and Cornes Brothers are added to the list.
Also Paul Medhurst is added to the list.
Also missed Jordan McMahon. He is also added to the list.
what about dalziell
hes a dream team slut
Nah, I don't think Dalziell is a spud. DT slut, yes. Spud, no. What does everyone else think?
its a nice list that is composed so far and i will add jarrad oakley-nicholls, cannot believe any club was stupid to pick him up after richmond finally got rid of him lol

We've almost got a team of Spuds!!! Woohoo. 8) We can call them the Potato Sacks! hahahaha ;D
Any more spuds?
do you reckon anyone would be willing to make a team using the people from this list?
just to see how the team would go
ohailpin king spud
I dunno. There's probably someone out there who would make a team of spuds for a laugh. I think that Presti is king spud myself. ;D But O'Hailpin not far behind. lmao.
Does anyone else have any more players that I haven't mentioned that they think are absolute SPUDS?
If making a fantasy spud team, it'll be important to have genuine spuds who will score every week. No always injured, no always suspended, and no rookies.
I'd love to see that team - help me make it, and I'll say it's my mum's!
Awesome! Yeah, I'd love to see that too and help you make it. This is some players that I think would fit team spud for starters (Genuine spuds that are playing every week. If anyone can come up with anymore that would be awesome!!!
B: Presti, W Thursfield, O'Hailpin, K Bradley, Z Dawson, J McMahon, Raines, J Nash, M Drum
M:
R: Laycock,
F: P Medhurst, J Schulz, L Brown,
Adding to team Spud:
J Sellar (R), B Johnson (M) Collingwood, W Skipper (R), B Renouf (R), M Newton (F), L McGuane (B).
Team Spud so far:
B: Presti, W Thursfield, Z Dawson, L McGuane, J McMahon, A Raines, M Drum, K Bradley,
M: B Johnson,
R: Renouf, Laycock, Sellar, Skipper
F: Medhurst, Schulz, L Brown, O'Hailpin, M Newton
Medhurst isn't a spud! How about JON?
JON sounds a starter. Also that ugly Sydney back with the double-barrelled name ... can't remember for the (senior?) moment.
Lewis Roberts-Thomson. LRT awesome stuff.
(note: I get sick of this 30 second posting rule)
you have to put pestinko on your bench, so valuable for his price.
Yeah, I Agree Lewis Roberts-Thompson is a big spud. ;D
Also, I think Ryan Crowley should be added.
Sorry, not sure who JON is but ok.
JON = Jarrod Oakley-Nicchols
Yeah, Oakley-Nicholls is added too. Also, I think Jay Neagle is another spud and should be added to the team.
Also, Tom Williams is another spud.
Updated Spud team so far:
B: Presti, W Thursfield, J King, L Robert-Thompson, K Bradley (RUC), Z Dawson, J McMahon, A Raines, L McGuane.
M: B Johnson (Collingwood), J Oakley-Nicholls, R Crowley,
R: B Renouf, J Laycock, J Sellar, W Skipper
F: J Schulz, L Brown, O'Hailpin, M Newton, J Neagle,
If there are more spuds out there, keep 'em coming!
For your mascot you need to have a potato with Leigh Brown's head cause he's the biggest spud ever
how about mike pyke :Din the ruck ralmao
Tarrant, Nathan Brown, Troy Selwood,
Hello? Pestinko?
DEFS TARRANT
Schulz will play alot up foward this year, him and salter will score 60+ most games. wont dominate but will play the 22 for the power at 200k there are alot of worse picks than schultz IMO
Mark Blake, Henry Playfair, Chris Johnson, Dennis Armfield (I don't see how some people rate this kid?) and Daniel Bell are all fairly spuddy
Sorry Master Q, I'm not sure who Pestinko is.
As for additional spuds we can add to the list Mark Blake, Henry Playfair, Chris Johnson, Dennis Armfield, Tarrant, Nathan Brown, Mike Pyke, Troy Selwood & Daniel Bell.
Provisional Spud Squad:
D: Presti, W Thursfield, J King, Tarrant, L Robert Thompson, N Brown, K Bradley (Ruck) , Z Dawson, J McMahon, A Raines, J McMahon, D Armfield, T Williams,
M: B Johnson (Collingwood), C Johnson, T Selwood, R Crowley, J Oakley-Nicholls
R: M Blake, J Laycock, M Pyke, W Skipper, B Renouf, J Sellar,
F: L Brown, J Schulz, O'Hailpin, M Newton, H Playfair, J Neagle,
Can anyone think of anymore spuds to add to the squad? especially those that play in the midfield or forward line.

Sorry Master Q, I'm not sure who Pestinko is.
Petrenko
Interesting that we are well endowed for backs and rucks!
most players in thier 1-3 years at senior are spuds...it is at the 4th year mark that they with either shine or flop..hence a true spud
Do not underestimate the power of experience and players that really need to just find their feet.
As for presti he is def not a spud..he does his job well year in and out very consistently..he just isnt a DTer
Quote..he does his job well year in and out very consistently..he just isnt a DTer
The definition of a dt spud!
lol ya...just sick of people putting presti down is all...i think hes ace
"See ball, hit ball" is in the team week after week for a reason. One of the best backmen going round. Every forwards nightmare!
How could anyone forget Brett Peake?
He was given the spud by Monty is the whole of 2009!
Also, how is Jay Schulz a spud? He's scoring really well at the moment, and is a legit bargain.
Ah yes, Brett Peake is a spud.
Also, If Ashley Hansen gets games then consider him to be a spud too.
Prospector
I assume you have Leroy Brown slotted in the team
Can i put his name foward as CAPTAIN of this motly bunch
A valued contribution, CFC.
Captain may have to rotate depending on who m0nty spuds the week before!
Must be the pie show with L. Brown as Cpt and Presti as Vice!
Monty can we change the spud to a burnt pie icon ??? ;D
glass :)
Provisional Spud Squad:
D: Presti, W Thursfield, J King, Tarrant, L Robert Thompson, N Brown, K Bradley (Ruck) , Z Dawson, J McMahon, A Raines, J McMahon, D Armfield, T Williams, D Glass

Can anyone think of anymore spuds to add to the squad? especially those that play in the midfield or forward line.
Yep, bench needed for those positions ...
How about Shane Edwards? I think he's a bit of a spud. Tom Lonergan?
Graham Polak? Josh Carr? Matthew De Boer? Tom Hislop? Should these players be considered spud squad members as well?
stefan martin and simon buckley
Stefan Martin & Simon Buckley will be added to the spud squad. How 'bout Daniel Merrett?
I don't think Presti and Merret can be called Spuds because they do their jobs.

Looks like we have enough positions at the moment for the spud team. But if anyone can come up with any better spud candidates than the ones already listed that would be really awesome. 8)
Does anyone else have any nominations to the spud squad? ;D
Ok folks here is the Provisional Spud Squad

ok
now who is going to make the team up and administer it ?
Dump it in a league
Big_Cox + Prospector maybe ( only if time allows )
post weekly scores and vote for trades in forum. cut off say Tuesday or Wednesday so administrator has time to look after his real team ( this is a spudly team remember )
Thats if you guys are serious about seeing how bad this team can go 8)
if nobody wants to have this team maybe just keep bumping up this post with combined scores throughout the season.
looks to be the best option so far without screwing up anybody else's years.
Biggy has really taken on the workload, so if you can, BC14, it'd be great for you to do it.
If not, I am happy to run it, and do it through this forum however people prefer (votes / advice on trades etc.). As I said, it will be "mum's" team, and I can run it in a family and friends comp, or (if ppl want) perhaps it can take a place in one of the beginners' or improvers' leagues here.
What do you think, BC14 and other spudelicious fans?
Hey Prospector, I'm happy for you to run the spud team as your mum's team. I think that voting for spuds in the forum is probably the way to go at this stage. Once the season's underway, the weekly scores could be posted and advice for trades could be undertaken via a forum with a Tuesday/Wednesday deadline.
Go forth and multiply the spuds Prospector
Finer details can be worked out later 8)
STOP THE SPUD PRESS!
I know we are overloaded with backs but might i suggest BRETT JONES!
SpudSacks v1.0
I am concerned about durability and price for some of these players.
No-one wants to have to down-trade a perfectly good and expensive spud for some tiggy touchwood infringement or niggling little injury, do they?
So how much is left over for upgrades, 9 mil ??? ::)
$1.25M

Stay posted. I'll get it into a league and post results here.
Is there a FanFooty league (beginners maybe) that wants this team in their comp to beat?
Also, I propose a compulsory trade each week for the best spud m0nty nominates in the livechat who we don't already have (or haven't already had).
If there's disagreement or doubt, it might get voted on here.
i thought these players were supposed to be the worst players that play every week. that was the condition right? cause there is no way that playfair will play
Excellent. Then we need to switch right there. Proposals for a Forward replacement for Playfair? If there are enough nominations I'll run a poll.
Jake King won't be playing round 1 due to suspension.
King's not a problem, we have good old reliable Presti to cover!
I do think we should replace Playfair though.
By the way, joined a league listed here. See

Daisy Thomas?
Here are the SpudSacks.
A team of regular spuds, who can deliver the least in DT, "just for recreations sake".
You can rate 'em on the spuddy scale, or recommend additional spuds.
We need durable players that can be relied on get low scores, week in, week out, with few injuries, and not too many visits to the tribunal.
C'mon, I need some help here!
::) ::) ::)
anybody?
OK, I'm sooking and going to bed.
bellchambers instead of laycock?
looks pretty spuddy - leigh brown should be capt.
As a bombers supporter i have to say, dont you dare take laycock out of that team, he is the biggest spud and just painful and embarassing to watch
Johnstone, Newton, McMahon all average in the 70s.. that's not very spuddy :)
i have a feeling armfield may go alright this year. how bout replacing him with brett jones
and how could you leave out glass??
gotta put daisy in.
presti not good enough for a starting position, what a shame ;D
put it in the league named WOOOOOOO. that way i can keep it updated throughout the season

I think that would be very difficult. I'd really like to see more of the cap spent.
one of the guys who got chucked into our league last year was averaging 700 for a while. maybe he should be contacted for some spud-team pointers?
Give the kid a break Jack. He might be here and improving this year.
Besides, if all the talent here doesn't know a spud when they see 'em, maybe we should go back to peelin' the things?

Kepler named in ruck, I think. Hendo - hmm, some want him in their real team, so you'll need to quote a few stats to convince me of his Spuddom.

M0nty has nominated Gumbleton this round as well although I'm not impressed with that because he is raw and underdeveloped.

Scores are in for round 1, with a whopping 954 with 5 donuts ;D.
did bring down the league average but not by too much (900 points to next lowest ;))

Post the scores in rate my team. I'll get rid of the poll.
Here's out list after last week. We need to get rid of some players not getting games. Also bring Pestinko off the bench.
People also want to see B. Jones and D. Glass in the side.

simmonds or renouf in the rucks?
gotta get glass in.
richards and baker down back?
wells? so much is promised for so little
gumby in?
headland?
westoff maybe?
milne that pest.
hale since he is up forward.
presti on field
that help Prospector?
J. King not back til R4. Get Wells?
Newton out for Hale?
Do I need to poll?
could sort out the rucks and mids first. only need 1 more scorer in each.
then work on the defence and forwards coming weeks.
maybe put a poll and update it with options weekly.
makes sense.
Jesse White for ruck, replacing M. Pyke?
Wells for King?
white is a pretty good player. don't think he is a spud just yet, hasn't even played a full season. we'll see next season ;)
not sure if king will get consistent games by mid year if stanley and mcevoy are firing. renouf seems a more playing pick with hawks ruck depth.
wells for which non playing mid? Prospector's choice of the week :P
what did you mean by wells for king? ???
Prospector,
To make this a realistic 'spud' attempt, I think you'd give yourself more of a challenge by imposing a constraint on how much cash you hold back. With more than $1.2m in the kitty, chances are the team wouldn't score well even if you were trying.
HellYeah
agreed. Do you have some more expensive spud suggestions for the mid and ruck replacements?

don't mind the trades you suggested.
just a note: how many defenders, mids and rucks did you mention? forwards got the right numbers but the other positions went over the 9, 8 and 4 required.
If I see more than 2 of any position in the "non-scorers" then I reckon we are short of an on-field option there.
Means we are down at least one playing defender, ruck and midfielder, and two forwards.
PANIC TRADE :- presti out this week quad. :'(
Yeah just read that naste, what ever shall we do!
Pyke --> Simmonds, deBoer --> Pearce
Brings the left over cash below $1M. We still need to spend more on trades in following weeks.
Newton to play this week - bonus! Armfield also to play, and Laycock and Kepler a chance.
Spuds to rule!!!!
Fingers crossed the Spuds crack the 1000 this round.

hooper hurt his hamstring first quarter. one to see if he plays or is rested.
need to get 2 forwards this round? playfair and hansen out? lachie hansen from north?
hooper is injured :-\
Quotelachie hansen from north?
Nah, Ashley Hansen from WCE.
Mark Williams has produced spudlike scores too. He has to be considered as well as McPhee to be traded into the Spudsacks.
Prospector, what trades you thinking about this week?
maybe king and blake on field.
hansen and playfair out like i said before? doubt they will play anytime soon.
A Hansen has been named at full forward this week. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-teams-live-round-3/story-e6frf9jf-1225851459648

There are moves afoot to oust the SpudSacks from FF leagues.
Think MP started a little to try and get our league to do the best as it can. from WOOOOOO FF. message her and see.
i don't mind spudsacks as i don't go for league rankings. just 1 less competition unless i really bomb :P

Haha Yeah ok
Campbell Brown a strong contender for a place ... maybe for Tarrant down the track?
i'll come back with some spuddy mids. Brock Mclean, David Armitage (yes i'm putting him forward ;D), Nathan Jones, Chad Cornes (add a little premium flavour to the mix ;) and Henry Slattery,
Good call on McLean. Chornes an injury risk. Also like the look of Slattery.
hey guys, im on sportingbet.com trying to score big by scoring low... (one of their things is picking your fantasy teams score)...
the game's scoring system is the same except there's one player less from each position in contrast to dreamteam (so 6d's, 5m's, 1r, 6f's). This does change the expected score per round obviously as you are 4 players shorter than a dream team and no captain...
i'll get to the point, if you can manage to have your team score under 599 points, you win a nice $10 return on a $1 bet, it goes to $7 if it's between 600-699 and $4.50 if it's between 700-799
now i thought i'd come to the experts for some tips, you have to have at least 15 players score SOMETHING (so you can't just pick injured blokes) and the value has to be between 5.5 and 5.8 million (so you can't just pick mongoloids everywhere). My team is as follows:
Backs
Darren Glass 34.1
Zac Dawson 49.5
Simon Prestigiacomo 31.9
Leigh Brown 47.5
Ryan Hargrave (Chosen to help bump up the value, as he's playing poorly but still worth a fair bit) 50.4
Daniel Merret 48.9
Mids
David Armitage 64.1
Brad Sewell 0 (uses up large amount of budget and wont play = win)
Richard Tambling 63.5
Dominic Cassisi 56.9
Leigh Harding 52.3
Ruck
Dean Cox 57.7
Forwards
Nick Reiwold (same deal as sewell, to bump up value) 0
Jason Akermanis (see above) 0
Lindsay Thomas 43.8
Adam McPhee 58.1
Des Headland 57.5
Setanta O'hailpin 52.9
The values are more or less the same (give or take about 1-5k), so if you guys can help me out here... that'd be great... i'm a little worried about hargrave, cox, cassisi, armitage and tambling, could they strike lucky??? i've only chosen armitage coz i had to pick someone in his price range, and before i've seen any teams announced, he seems to be the least likely to rip me apart. (had to be above $311k) any alternatives to the team above?
As i said, any advice would be muchly appreciated. Any inclusions that people spot this week that will earn minimal TOG or minimal possessions would be fantastic.
EDIT: according to the Guru Projections... this team should score about 769.3... spuddy... but not spuddy enough. haha i've also added these expected scores for each player.
maybe some guys from north or port as they are versing the swans and cats. 2 tough teams so might be pretty good for you.
if you want i can can come up with a few tommorrow morning.

Lets hope they both play so Spudsacks don't cop a donut for the first time this season :D. Just when head to head starts 8).
Chosch there are a few guys but are risky as they can score high. I've come up with Harding, Warren and Thompson from the kangas. port has a fair few risky ones.
harding has had a couple of good years but has started this year slow. warren a young KPP and has started with a few 40's and one 60. Scott D thompson is a KPP and always tends to stay back. hansen and grima are doing the running out of defence.
hope that helps but there is always risk to be had when you try and pick lowest score ;D
agreed mate, fingers crossed. and cheers for the tips.
Schulz with a knee problem, Newton only on extended bench so far ... not sure if we have coverage, but can wait for final teams.
Peake, Crowley and Hislop all on extended bench - we need two of them to play.
would expect crowley to play to be used to tag one of the saints mids. hislop should with 2 of their mids being culled this week.
Hislop and peake named. crowley and newton out
Good Luck to the Spuds ;D
1234, with only one dohnut - no Schultz or Newton, and I didn't find time to trade before lock-out.
What a bunch of solid spuds ;D
An all time high score for this year.
Got to applaud for that performance by the lot ;D

Any trades for this round for Spuds Prospector?
Haven't thought about it yet. Besides, I'm just running this team because people asked me to.
Maybe a few Spudsacks fans could post about players lacking durability or injured, along with some suggested trades?
I'm happy to get the gist from posts, and try to build the team into a seriously durable spuddy side, but it's for fun, so I'm not going to put a lot of time into it.
I still think the real challenge with the Spuds would be to construct a team that used most cash, doesn't include too much cash on the bench or rookies that won't play, and still scored poorly.
Do the Spuds have those characteristics?

A few outs this week - what are people's opinions?
Honestly, if there's not more interest, I'm dropping this ...
A few players that have been producing spudlike performances:
K Tippett (R, F)
M Spangher (D)
J Van Berlo (M)
A Joseph (M)
C Cornes (D, M)
Well, we need 'em, coz here's tonight's quick analysis of the team ...
Hansen out, Newton out - Schulz in gives some cover
Buckley out, Presti out
Laycock, Neagle out
T Selwood emerg
Pearce & Schulz in
Crowley, Bradley uncertain
Simmonds uncertain, King McMahon & Hislop out
Blake uncertain
One forward down, one back down, one centre down

Presti has a groin, hope he's back next week.
Dunno what's wrong with L. Brown or Willo (apart from obvious spuddiness).
Merrett out to round 9.
Looking for well spuddy dependables for the mid.

King/Merret and Selwood/Peake get the boot?
Hargrave maybe? not like last year's hargrave.
will come back with some mids one before lockout tommorrow.
Raines or Gwilt? Hargrave does look a good option too.
Mids - Wells or Rischitelli? Neon or Tambo? Tambo a solid spud of the past!
Raines could be a good option unless he burns us like he did last year ;D.
Wells could bring some added spark to the team ;). Hope he feels lazy next couple of games ;D
Hargrave & Tambling are both solid options to include in the spudsacks.
Say goodbye to King & Selwood/Peake.
Yeah hoping for Merrett back next round. Really need to decide on Selwood or Peake. I suppose we should trade the cheapest in an effort to keep the spend on ground up!
Raines just back from injury, so maybe not a great choice for durability.
Yes Coxy, I like the look of Hargrave and Tambo!
Selwood & King --> Hargrave & Tambling unless I'm advised otherwise in the next hour or so ...

Merrett out to R12.
Did Doboer play last round?
Pity - that team is looking absolute spudtastic
Meds should be back this week
Hale very doubtfull
mid - bris; matt austin ave 38 80% game time $183 800
coll; neon leon ave 67 81% gametime $ 284 000
Neon leon's performances definately puts him in front as a spud but will he go nuts

Might be a risk we have to take!
Hopefully 1 of the no game forwards can finally get a call up this week.
Neon can add a little sparkle to the team ;).
Go for Neon!
Pleased to see some love for the general of Santa's little helpers.
I'll check the team against the lists tomorrow, and hope to welcome him to the SpudSacks early in the arvo ...
armfield played very well are you sure that is classed as a spudder? :P
Hale / Medders / L.Brown / Willo --> Neon? & ???
other problems are ...
TJohnstone, Tambling, Hislop --> ???
Merrett, Presti, Dawson --> ???
Need 4 trades to field a team his week ... which two have reliable spuds as options for the SS?
Hale and Medders should get back into the team when fully fit.
Maybe Brown is the way to go now that Cloke and co are firing.

Daisy and Neon in for Williams and Brown then?
Making it even juicier 8). Going against the Burnt Pies rule but why not :D

I agree that with close to a full team starting on the park, trades need to be saved for this week.

Top scorer for the round in a team full of spuds. He doesn't fit. :)
This is an elected team, achieved via certain democratic principles.
You might equally ask "How did Petro Georgiou ever become a Liberal and win Kooyong?"

They are both mpp also - that might help with the donuts in future.

o-helpless to Fev
Gotta love Presti
thats captain material :D
Outs this week ... we need a mid for Johnstone, Crowley or Tambling, and a back for Presti, Cornes or LRT,
3 trades left & $44,100.
Crowley not back 'til R22 seems the obvious choice in the mid line.
Similarly, Chornes for the backs.

presti hurts
tambling out after his score on the weekend Rich in :-\
Garland or Schofield in the back?
Tambling no injury I know of ... whereas Crowley out til the DT GF!
Rich rather than Jetta? Ladson worth a look?
Farmer in, Kepler out - we play a ruck short, or trade Simmonds.
Probs play short.
So, Chornes --> Garland or Schofield?
Crowley --> Rich, Jetta or Ladson?
Morabito?
OUT Crowley ($237,900) IN Morabito ($247,200)
OUT Cornes ($246,100) IN Ladson ($255,800)
good trading pros 8)
Mora replacing crowley at least keeps the balance for a docker player :P.
Cornes out :(.
