Title: Rate the SpudSacks
Post by: Big_Cox14 on March 08, 2010, 09:16:30 AM
There are some players that you should never think about considering your fantasy team whether it is off-field trouble or because they don't get game time or they don't get the ball. Here are some players that I consider to be spuds and I would laugh if I saw any team with those players ;D:

Presti (Great player, does his job week in, week out, but doesn't get the ball).  ;D
W Thursfield
J King  :-[
A Lovett (Sacked by St Kilda)
M Stokes (Suspended by club til rnd 9)
M Hurley (Court Case pending)
L Brown
K Bradley
H Playfair
S Rusling
R Murphy (Freo)
J Schulz
C Cloke
A Raines
Z Dawson
S O'Hailpin
B Reid
C Wood

Does Anyone else have any other spuds they would like to add to the list?

If making a fantasy spud team, it'll be important to have genuine spuds who will score every week. No always injured, no always suspended, and no rookies.

I'd love to see that team - help me make it, and I'll say it's my mum's!

most players in thier 1-3 years at senior are spuds...it is at the 4th year mark that they with either shine or flop..hence a true spud

Do not underestimate the power of experience and players that really need to just find their feet.

As for presti he is def not a spud..he does his job well year in and out very consistently..he just isnt a DTer

How could anyone forget Brett Peake?

He was given the spud by Monty is the whole of 2009!

Also, how is Jay Schulz a spud? He's scoring really well at the moment, and is a legit bargain.

Ah yes, Brett Peake is a spud.

Also, If Ashley Hansen gets games then consider him to be a spud too.

ok

now who is going to make the team up and administer it ?
Dump it in a league

Big_Cox + Prospector maybe ( only if time allows )

post weekly scores and vote for trades in forum. cut off say Tuesday or Wednesday so administrator has time to look after his real team ( this is a spudly team remember )

Thats if you guys are serious about seeing how bad this team can go 8)

if nobody wants to have this team maybe just keep bumping up this post with combined scores throughout the season.

Biggy has really taken on the workload, so if you can, BC14, it'd be great for you to do it.

If not, I am happy to run it, and do it through this forum however people prefer (votes / advice on trades etc.). As I said, it will be "mum's" team, and I can run it in a family and friends comp, or (if ppl want) perhaps it can take a place in one of the beginners' or improvers' leagues here.

What do you think, BC14 and other spudelicious fans?
Title: Re: Rate the SpudSacks
Post by: Big_Cox14 on March 15, 2010, 03:55:05 PM
Hey Prospector, I'm happy for you to run the spud team as your mum's team. I think that voting for spuds in the forum is probably the way to go at this stage. Once the season's underway, the weekly scores could be posted and advice for trades could be undertaken via a forum with a Tuesday/Wednesday deadline.

SpudSacks v1.0

I am concerned about durability and price for some of these players.

No-one wants to have to down-trade a perfectly good and expensive spud for some tiggy touchwood infringement or niggling little injury, do they?

Is there a FanFooty league (beginners maybe) that wants this team in their comp to beat?

Also, I propose a compulsory trade each week for the best spud m0nty nominates in the livechat who we don't already have (or haven't already had).

If there's disagreement or doubt, it might get voted on here.

Here are the SpudSacks.

A team of regular spuds, who can deliver the least in DT, "just for recreations sake".

You can rate 'em on the spuddy scale, or recommend additional spuds.

We need durable players that can be relied on get low scores, week in, week out, with few injuries, and not too many visits to the tribunal.

Besides, if all the talent here doesn't know a spud when they see 'em, maybe we should go back to peelin' the things?

What about Kepler Bradley or Lachlan Henderson?

Kepler named in ruck, I think. Hendo - hmm, some want him in their real team, so you'll need to quote a few stats to convince me of his Spuddom.

If making a fantasy spud team, it'll be important to have genuine spuds who will score every week. No always injured, no always suspended, and no rookies.

I'd love to see that team - help me make it, and I'll say it's my mum's!

white is a pretty good player. don't think he is a spud just yet, hasn't even played a full season. we'll see next season ;)

not sure if king will get consistent games by mid year if stanley and mcevoy are firing. renouf seems a more playing pick with hawks ruck depth.

wells for which non playing mid? Prospector's choice of the week :P

what did you mean by wells for king? ???

Prospector,

To make this a realistic 'spud' attempt, I think you'd give yourself more of a challenge by imposing a constraint on how much cash you hold back.  With more than $1.2m in the kitty, chances are the team wouldn't score well even if you were trying.

don't mind the trades you suggested.

just a note: how many defenders, mids and rucks did you mention? forwards got the right numbers but the other positions went over the 9, 8 and 4 required.

If I see more than 2 of any position in the "non-scorers" then I reckon we are short of an on-field option there.

Means we are down at least one playing defender, ruck and midfielder, and two forwards.

Newton to play this week - bonus! Armfield also to play, and Laycock and Kepler a chance.

Post by: chosch on April 16, 2010, 02:07:14 AM
hey guys, im on sportingbet.com trying to score big by scoring low... (one of their things is picking your fantasy teams score)...

the game's scoring system is the same except there's one player less from each position in contrast to dreamteam (so 6d's, 5m's, 1r, 6f's). This does change the expected score per round obviously as you are 4 players shorter than a dream team and no captain...

i'll get to the point, if you can manage to have your team score under 599 points, you win a nice $10 return on a $1 bet, it goes to $7 if it's between 600-699 and $4.50 if it's between 700-799

now i thought i'd come to the experts for some tips, you have to have at least 15 players score SOMETHING (so you can't just pick injured blokes) and the value has to be between 5.5 and 5.8 million (so you can't just pick mongoloids everywhere). My team is as follows:

Backs
Darren Glass 34.1
Zac Dawson 49.5
Simon Prestigiacomo 31.9
Leigh Brown 47.5
Ryan Hargrave (Chosen to help bump up the value, as he's playing poorly but still worth a fair bit) 50.4
Daniel Merret 48.9

Mids
David Armitage 64.1
Brad Sewell 0 (uses up large amount of budget and wont play = win)
Richard Tambling 63.5
Dominic Cassisi 56.9
Leigh Harding 52.3

Ruck
Dean Cox 57.7

Forwards
Nick Reiwold (same deal as sewell, to bump up value) 0
Jason Akermanis (see above) 0
Lindsay Thomas 43.8
Adam McPhee 58.1
Des Headland 57.5
Setanta O'hailpin 52.9

The values are more or less the same (give or take about 1-5k), so if you guys can help me out here... that'd be great... i'm a little worried about hargrave, cox, cassisi, armitage and tambling, could they strike lucky??? i've only chosen armitage coz i had to pick someone in his price range, and before i've seen any teams announced, he seems to be the least likely to rip me apart. (had to be above $311k) any alternatives to the team above?

As i said, any advice would be muchly appreciated. Any inclusions that people spot this week that will earn minimal TOG or minimal possessions would be fantastic.

EDIT: according to the Guru Projections... this team should score about 769.3... spuddy... but not spuddy enough. haha i've also added these expected scores for each player.

Lets hope they both play so Spudsacks don't cop a donut for the first time this season :D. Just when head to head starts 8).

Chosch there are a few guys but are risky as they can score high. I've come up with Harding, Warren and Thompson from the kangas. port has a fair few risky ones.

harding has had a couple of good years but has started this year slow. warren a young KPP and has started with a few 40's and one 60. Scott D thompson is a KPP and always tends to stay back. hansen and grima are doing the running out of defence.

hope that helps but there is always risk to be had when you try and pick lowest score ;D

Schulz with a knee problem, Newton only on extended bench so far ... not sure if we have coverage, but can wait for final teams.

Peake, Crowley and Hislop all on extended bench - we need two of them to play.

Haven't thought about it yet. Besides, I'm just running this team because people asked me to.

Maybe a few Spudsacks fans could post about players lacking durability or injured, along with some suggested trades?

I'm happy to get the gist from posts, and try to build the team into a seriously durable spuddy side, but it's for fun, so I'm not going to put a lot of time into it.

I still think the real challenge with the Spuds would be to construct a team that used most cash, doesn't include too much cash on the bench or rookies that won't play, and still scored poorly.

Do the Spuds have those characteristics?

Blake uncertain

One forward down, one back down, one centre down

Depending on teams, it looks like a def and mid are needed this week.

Presti has a groin, hope he's back next week.

Here's this week's problem -

2. Merrett (DEF)
3. Prestigiacomo (DEF)
4. King (DEF)

5. Peake (MID)
6. T.Selwood (MID)
7. T.Johnstone (MID)

Need to move a def and mid for people who are playing ... I think King must go, but who else?

King/Merret and Selwood/Peake get the boot?

Hargrave maybe? not like last year's hargrave.
will come back with some mids one before lockout tommorrow.

Raines or Gwilt? Hargrave does look a good option too.

Mids - Wells or Rischitelli? Neon or Tambo? Tambo a solid spud of the past!

Raines could be a good option unless he burns us like he did last year ;D.

Wells could bring some added spark to the team ;). Hope he feels lazy next couple of games ;D

Hargrave & Tambling are both solid options to include in the spudsacks.

Say goodbye to King & Selwood/Peake.

Post by: Prospector_1 on May 14, 2010, 12:39:59 PM
Yeah hoping for Merrett back next round. Really need to decide on Selwood or Peake. I suppose we should trade the cheapest in an effort to keep the spend on ground up!

Raines just back from injury, so maybe not a great choice for durability.

Yes Coxy, I like the look of Hargrave and Tambo!

Pity - that team is looking absolute spudtastic

Meds should be back this week
Hale very doubtfull

mid - bris; matt austin ave 38 80% game time $183 800
         coll; neon leon    ave 67 81% gametime $ 284 000

Neon leon's performances definately puts him in front as a spud but will he go nuts

TJohnstone, Tambling, Hislop --> ???

Merrett, Presti, Dawson --> ???

Need 4 trades to field a team his week ... which two have reliable spuds as options for the SS?

outs so far for round 13 ...

*4. Armfield (DEF)  50
*20. O'hAilpin (FWD)  21
*4. Hislop (MID)  0
*6. Simmonds (RUC) (Emerg)  0
*7. Hale (FWD) (Emerg)  0

Petrenko (DEF)
Dawson (DEF)
Medhurst (FWD)

That's 2 donuts, one forward, one back.

Play Petrenko or Dawson - both are named as emergencies?
Get Jack Trengove (PA) into backline to enable mpp with Kepler?

Trade Simmonds soon - no point in that kinda money on the bench.
Maybe get Lobbe enabling mpp with Tippett?

Outs this week ... we need a mid for Johnstone, Crowley or Tambling, and a back for Presti, Cornes or LRT,

3 trades left & $44,100.

Crowley not back 'til R22 seems the obvious choice in the mid line.
Similarly, Chornes for the backs.

Garland or Schofield in the back?

Tambling no injury I know of ... whereas Crowley out til the DT GF!

Rich rather than Jetta? Ladson worth a look?

Farmer in, Kepler out - we play a ruck short, or trade Simmonds.
Probs play short.

So, Chornes --> Garland or Schofield?

Crowley --> Rich, Jetta or Ladson?
