1st Preliminary Final: Macedonian Wolves 124 Lost to Belarus Bison 151
2nd Preliminary Final: Swedish Metal 154 Defeated Serbian Eagles 151

Holz Analysis: The wolves and bison have quietly been putting up good scores while the competition had its attention of the big 3. Its time for one of these teams to step out of the shadow and qualify for the Grand Final. The wolves upset the eagles in the first round, while the bison took out one of the premiership fancies in the roulettes. Last time these teams played the Bison defeated the Wolves 143 to 134. This game is too close to call.

Spinking's Analysis: Agree with Holz here, will be a very tight contest. Both have gone under the radar somewhat, but one will be playing off in the GF and deserves to be there. The Wolves have gone for a left field captain selection in Martin and this could make or break the match. I feel that the Bison have a better defensive line up, but the Wolves mids look more handy. Should be a ripper. Bison by 4 points.

Premiership Odds: Wolves $1.40, Bison $2.20

Holz Analysis: The mighty Serbian Eagles look to push aside premiership pretenders in the metal. The old man brigade of the Metal is looking for one last shot at the cup, coming against a team younger, faster and more skilled than them. Serbia shocked  the competition with thier first loss of the season coming finals and will look to put than anomly past them. Last time these teams played the Eagles destoroyed the Metal 162 to 134. The Question this week is how much do the Eagles win by.

Spinking's Analysis: Holz has a right to be cocky considering the Eagles standout season, however this will be a hard fought battle. The Metal are the competition's form team and bookies favourite for the flag. The Eagles boast the leagues most dominant midfield and should produce some big scores here, but Sweden looks very strong up forward, and Minson has been punishing in the ruck. I'm tipping Metal by 8 points.

Premiership Odds: Metal $1.20, Eagles $1.50

Swedish Metal (HGA)
Def: C Enright 124, B Lake 83, B Staker (Replacing H Scotland in named team) 49, S Dempster 92
Mid: J Watson (VC) 104, L Montagna (C) 126 x 2 = 252, B McLean 23, A Treloar (Replacing A Cooney in named team) 63
Ruck: W Minson 90
Fwd: D Cox 100, N Riewoldt 152, S Johnson 132, J Bartel 84
Utilities: D Cross 60, N Dal Santo 113

Total: 1544 (HGA 23)

Emg: A Treloar (M), B Staker (FD), S Blease (M) 0

We are going to lose the un-losable!

Captain Swallow down with an LTI has us in real strife plus the Terlich OOP!

Couldn't do 4 in a row :(

Your boys obviously aren't hungry enough for finals.

Great work spinning it definately adds to the competition knowing what you need to win on that last day. Pity pendles stuffed it up as every other lining is pumping.

JOM for Simpson is still a terrible trade but Simpson is looking good recentely and outscoring JOM.

I had a chat to the boys and they were so disheartened by Captain Swallow's injury that they couldn't stand playing (and winning) finals this year without him!

Out of my control but that's the way it is :(

Not a chance. First draft pick, inaugural captain and b&f, everyone loves him here and he loves the club.

Why would he jump ship? If anything, a poor year this year makes us more powerful in 2014 ;)

So we were robbed of 90 points + will probably cost us 50 HGA points

Thompson 5 round average of 75 including 2 red vests 3 round average 70

McLean 5 round average of 98.2 3 round average 108

The fact you say I should have played Thompson over McLean shows you to be a bad coach not me :o

3 round average more relevant imo

#38pointdifference

Thompson's last ton was round 12. He is past it. Last season when he was actually gun he also didn't crack the ton against Melbourne.

By my quick count we're 59.5 ahead with 1 extra player left to come.

Not guaranteed though seeing as Deledio, Boyd and Adcock all have big ton potential. Maybe not Adcock, but Deledio and Boyd could both score 150

My remaining players could all put up 50s too.

You underrate us holz.

When fit our team is every bit just as good as yours.

Our forward line probably averages more than your midfield ;) or close enough to it :o

We probably lost 1,000 points this season due to incorrect teams named. That's because I named players at random in the season and didn't care about points lost here and there. Just before the finals I actually looked at which players were averaging more and hence why we've actually got our best team on the park each week now.

Both you and nost always had the potential to take me out, I think I had every other team in the comps measure. I still have some flaws in my squad that I can work out over the preseason.

The backline is the major one. I have too many quality backs on the bench and not enough forwards. I only have 5 forwards and 2 were out this week. That's what killed me.

Apart from naming a player we don't have and having one of the best defenders in the game not named. :P

What killed you Holz is not having any good players in your team.

I don't think Holz has been a sore loser at all. Pretty good attitude considering the Eagles went through undefeated with a massive % yet have stumbled in the finals.

Metal have been the form team at the business end, but Eagles still the best team on paper IMO.

Metal have had a lot of their best XV pretty much all season.

Think about if Scotland played at full potential and whatnot

We have the highest averaging player in the comp along with a monster forward line. When forwards go big they really go big. I don't think anyone really appreciates how monster our forwards are.

Didn't help that Ball played half a game, Zorko's been down all year (although last two may have earned him a GF birth!) and no Suckling. Plus Scotland's poor season. Always thought we were a team deserving of the GF and perennially underrated.

haha, he wasn't really cocky/ arrogant... the eagles were significantly the best performing team all year.

they went undefeated in the HA season, and scored the most points (significantly as well)
like, they had a % of 116.6, the next highest (sweden) had a % of 111... the difference between first and second in scoring throughout the year was actually greater than the difference between the 2nd and 4th.

Title: Re: EXV Game Day
Post by: Nails on August 25, 2013, 08:21:22 PM
We didn't even bother naming our best team for the entire season

Like in the last couple rounds we even admitted we were playing young kids.

Some rounds we lost 100-200 points by accidentally having better players in reserves/emg

Eagles lucky they didn't have that problem. That's 4 weeks in a row we outscored Eagles. 4 Weeks ago I actually sat down and worked out who was averaging watch and which players were in the best form.

Lucky you beat me last week Huggy, check out these outs the Wolves would have had to deal with:

Shiels, Guerra, Walters, Broughton, Pedersen added onto Hartlett already out.

Our backline would have been Josh Gibson, Ben Reid, Steven Morris and an OOP haha. (Broughton, Hartlett, Guerra, Pedersen, Stevenson, Howard, Jaensch, Schoenmakers all out hahaha).

I am going to name a side in the friendly thread just to see how we would have gone lol

Mundy and Ball out really hurts us this week. Going to be extra tough to pull out a win now :(
