full length games starting next week, do we want to have some friendly matches/ comps?
Yep I'm keen.
Do we wanna play our rivals first up?
Other ideas for fixtures could be using Zips predicted ladder... Like, 1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th...
Orrrrr... The above idea but based on last years ladder? Would be interesting to see the change in teams after a few trade periods and preseason..
Against rivals or a random draw seems fair enough.
A comp would be good I think.
For some teams this may be their only chance at silverware for a while... :P
I wouldn't mind this 8). Anybody willing to run the pre-season comp or would it be better if those who are interested make their own matches and calculate their own scores (maybe the other teams if they are eager to find out result :P ). That's if we can't find an organisor.
I'm interested in the Friendlies (can calculate my own scores) but can't run it sadly as giving a crack at running World's Pre-Season Comp.

just do our own scores should be fine I reckon.
I will be running a comp. As we dont start till round 3, we can actually play during the regular season before the real stuff (for the euro starts).
im going back to perth this week. So will have to do it monday/tuesday (got a meeting mondasy night).
Im thinking randomising it is probably the fairest method. As basing it off last year is abit unfair, given the rise of the bashers and eagles.
14 teams play. 7 go through + the highest scoring loser.
so 14 8 4 2 thats 4 rounds.
round 2,3,4 of nab than round 1 of the afl for the grandfinal.
so get ready to post your teams for the first time this season.
wooo!

A little behind Asia aren't we?
Nope, just wanted a differently timed comp.
Taking scores from the triple headers are insanely unpredictable. Doing it this way provides us with a much truer indication of how each teams players are faring for season 2013 ;)
But from a fantasy prospective Asia is kicking your ass
What? How?
(And you can't say 'your ass' cos I'm in both)

so do we just name players on a rolling lockout basis?
and just pick players from that days (or nights) game(s), then pick the rest as they're due to play (and have been named)?

could have made it invincible going after ablett, but than I wouldnt have Lids + Siposs so would be struggling in 2-3 years.
im still scared of the possible 450+ from Swanny + Ablett

Ok JBs-Hawks has let me pick the Lions team for the pre-season comp :D
Here's a look. Very young side but could do well. Giving a few players who are not necessarily first XV a run although this is partly due to the fact that we have quite a few players missing through injury/not playing.
Our midfield is devastated this week with Beams, Zaharakis, Steven, Rischitelli, Kerr and Mitchell all not named :( Had to log in to Dream Team to check which of our forwards were dpp to name this team lol. Also a lot of outs across other lines.

I thought I had a bad team, then I saw Zips.
I didnt have any of my first like 5 forwards playing.. I only had 3/11 who were even named :'(
even then, it looked reasonable on paper, but then the North game got shortened because they were playing in extreme heat.
And then Golby got subbed off for hanley- really annoying since subs aren't properly announced for NAB, otherwise I would have benched hanley for someone like armstrong or something.
Pretty devastating.
If I win it'll be purely because torp put omeara as captain :P
I can still do this... if torp gets someone subbed :P
I didn't mention a C or VC :S

by my count I need gaff to outscore darling by 15 points to win... saved purely because omeara was captain, nick smith didnt play and torp had no emergencies named.
*edit*
by my count I've won that (albeit with one of the most pathetic score ever).
Darling was horrible today... About time he played a poor one :P
Fyfey didn't look like handled that hard tag very well, will see how murph and Nathan handle the attention this year.
Whitfield looks a star, hope he does well he is the future of the dinos.
Eagles plodding along nicely, Goddard and Gibbs looking like they will bring me a flag. They better as they will both probably lose dpp.
May failed play at rance to fix the above problem could come back to hurt me, looked great spears he is getting freed up with the changes of the summer.

looks like most people have the scores up arleady. I went down 1045 to 1055 by the looks of it thats a pretty decent losing margin, i might make it through on that and come up against HP again for a rematch.
Took a gamble playing Hogan for the fun of it, he is out of my sqwaud till 2014.
Ok so regardless of whether the team is eligible this week because it wasn't named on time, I've gone and added up the scores for our best XV, and where players are missing from the best XV I have taken the first playing emergency from our bench for each position. Hope that's ok.

wow what a low scoring affiar, alot of guns missed alot of premiums in second gear and alot of vests. Roulettes and Sons went through despite poor efforts after thier opponents didnt turn up. The bisons showed they mean business with 111 the biggest score of the round. It was a great match between the Eagles and the Bears with Bears 1 point winners, however as the Eagles posted the 3rd best score of the round the teams will have a rematch next week. The wolves plan to blood their youngsters didnt end up too well with last years minor premiers posting the lowest scoreo n record.

Im happy im still alive the draw looks abit harder in the bottom half of the comp. lets see if Lez can take you guys out.
Woah :o How did I beat Zip? Gonna play a full team this week. 8)
Yeah through minimal fault of our own we scored poorly but also through nothing we did we scraped through.
Should knock off Lez easy this week and hit up quarters ;)
Would just like to see that no club has EVER won the pre-season cup AND the premiership cup...

I took his highest listed defender as his emg and had it written down before the game. Not sure how fair it is for you but they scored 75
haha, I feel pretty routed :P
actually, I'm contesting that..

nick duigan is listed as the 2nd defender for the stallions
http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,44920.0.html
if you're doing auto emergencies, he should have been nick smiths replacement, not clarke.
and he only scored 28... which I *think* means I still won...
although I'm pretty sure it's very close...

Zip, If you want to go through i honestly don't care. Its up to you.
no, I only want to go through if I win :P
if you win by 1 point, then I'll happily concede defeat: honestly, you should have steam rolled me.
that being said, if holz assigned auto emergencies for you, I don't really think it's fair that the highest scoring bench backman was assigned... considering that the one overlooked was higher listed...
Haha I think you're being generous Zip.
The way I see it...
Torp didn't name emergencies. Therefore he gets 0 for his 4th back.

wow what a low scoring affiar, alot of guns missed alot of premiums in second gear and alot of vests.
Next weeks matchups are up.

We have a happy result. Made an error didn't see docherty played. I put duigan instead if dochers and replaced smith with 75.

If Danger was captain he would've gotten 244 so thats 122 more points (AKA 12). Minus 40 points of O'Meara (4) so 8 Points extra. 99+8=107 so maybe not 110 but close enough. ;)

No that's right. I was saying we scored 111, but could have scored more if we had named Taylor instead of any of our defenders, or could have had him on the utilities section. Swap him with Jenkins and we would have scored 121 instead!

looks like towers isnt playing... so stevens comes in?
Ohhh, I dunno. Wait for Holz I reckon.
Well, I'm conceding defeat- literally need like 290 points from gaff to win it.
Ward killed us as captain... a 90 odd game from him, and we possibly still could have taken it, even with goodes and ohailpin being vested.
I'd like to give an honourable mention to my backline, who averaged 70, especially to armstrong with his 89 (I think that makes him this weeks 4thd highest scoring back after houli, hibberd and goddard?)
A dishonourable mention to my ruckline, with Hickey, Mcevoy, Stephenson leaving poor green vested Ohailpin to be the number 1 ruck. Another dishonourable mention to the entire forward line, with only hawkins scraping over 50.
Bewick show'd fine form. Too bad he didn't even make the Valkyries emergencies this week.

Not going to allow that. It's abit like the rolling lockout gives an advantage to the more active coaches. I will put to vote a 5 emg bench ibstead of 3. Just waiting on my comp to be fixed to write the rule book.
Missing Rioli and Daisy but had a few vests and plenty of under performers in this weekend's heat and shortened games.

Yeah I thought the nab wasn't working this way. We have the buffer so looks like we might have to go round 1 and 2.

it's nab cup.
and my captain got injured and subbed on 4 points.
also, I had (6?) players in the geelong/ north game... it was 38 degrees then and both teams were rotating extremely heavily with the extra IC... the highest score in the entire game was 88, and that's with 90-100+ players like stevie J, chapman, swallow, wells, kelly, selwood all playing. I had 2 late withdrawals, my mid and my mid emergency, and three subbed players (tbh, I saw goodes coming... I was just hoping he could rack up enough against GC before he got subbed :P )
I'm not that surprised with my score :P

lets face it, having your captain score 4 points pretty much guarentees you won't win against a decent opponent.

North are always underrated, nearly every season they outperform their predicted ladder position. No clue how you can say overrated, I would say most underrated team in the comp.
went tipped to make finals, last year made finals. I have seen them put in the 9-12 bracket this year. I wouldn't could that overrated unless we finish 13 or lower.

Good I didn't try and get Suckling off them. I did say I do not rate Suckling no thanks, but apparently everyone else wanted a slice of the Suckling cake. Maybe selling him would of been the best option.

Sorry for not calculating my team scores yet, Thanks El :-[.
I have a 1-1 record against Holz and he goes through, I call bs :P.
to be fair you scraped a 1 point win against me round 1 than i beat you easily by 11 points round 2 :) +10 on aggregate.
But but.... I won first :P.
I'm just joking around, it is only Pre-Season :P.
I know, lets settle this in the season.
Our tie-breaker will occur when it matters :P.

What's the ruling regarding using captain and emergency loopholes this round?

What's the ruling regarding using captain and emergency loopholes this round?
yeah this may become a problem. I want to discourage people doing this but im trying to think of a way to do it, without restricting people. Could just let it happen, or is there a way you can think around it?
Nah, don't let it happen.
Dunno how to stop it tho :-\

the owrry is if i say no VC from teams playing in the first week or you cant change your C/VC from firday and something happens could be unfair.
just make it you cant captain a person who's not playing :S
like, if they're not named, you can't captain them.
problem solved.
Is it really such an unfair advantage to allow it? Like, often people wont even use it... I guess its morally wrong.
I'm with Zip. Can't name a non-playing dude.
Ok that seems fair. Might also cant name a non playing guy on the field. There is also the emg loophole.
Would have helped me though lids Pendles and Boyd I can see that being annoying when the guy I pick goes 110 and Boyd smashes 150.
Was soo much easier when I just had cotchin.

So, is it still preseason? Are we starting in round 3 like last year?
Yep still preseason LH, semi finals this week then we will play in the final next week and get our first silverware for the year :)
By the way forgot to add to the team sheet that if you want to change anything go for it :)
Well I'm assuming Roughy won't play but that doesn't really matter for now. So unless his replacement would come from one of this weekend's games, I'm all good!

What kings of joke is this. Sandi out injured hurts but really he is an injury risk so only slightly annoying. Lecras a high pick goes down injured for a year causes me to get the spoon. Comes back looks elite breaks his arm. Starting to get pretty annoyed now.
Now the most durable player in the comp Matthew Boyd is out. Season unraveling before it even starts.
And Harvey. Another one out for the mighty serbian spuds

And while we are complaining about injuries... After having his worst yr on record (Daisy's words not mine) Dale Thomas has done his ankle and will miss early games this season. Cyril has had virtually no preseason having spent it in a moon boot. Pavlich has had surgery on every part of the body you could think of and to add to his miserable score on the weekend he has split his hand in half :P
All that is in one line and thats not even mentioning the delayed starts and minor interuptions that Marc and Fyfe have had to their preseasons due to shoulder injuries.

Yeah, I've already seen them. At least Spink is going for youth though.
Goldy at pick #1 is horrible. I know he was averaging 99 back then, but your first pick really needs to be a 105+ average captain option. You set your rucks at about your 3rd/4th pick.

Zip's team is pretty ordinary too so I think it may be close haha
Mcevoy doesn't get his capital E until he can get through a euros season for the valkyries without suffering an LTI.
my team is going to shred yours lez: brisbane playing wbd (hanley, golby, bewick will all chop up), mcevoy again gc, goodes against gws :P

he's not injured, he's underdone, completely different scenario. They wouldn't play him against the giants if he was injured- He'll sit at FF, getting probably someone like plowman, and kick like 5 goals :P

With only Grima and Blair to come it looks ordinary. If I was able to, I would of changed Nahas to Armfield... oh well.
so you're on
1244 complete?
game on.
just need a casual 340 from hawkins + christensen :P
I kinda forgot to add emergencies to my team so we cop 0's on Daisy and Stanley.
I think it's safe to say we lost and Nails can progress to the Granny :P
A disappointing 1,213 for the Bison. I'm assuming we have lost to the eagles...

Oh well, time to focus on the actual season. Rocky looks nice ;)
Despite massive effots from Cyril, Jelwood, Birch and Andy Swallow I'm pretty sure we won't beat Nails with two donuts (flower, my bad)

while we are in the process of discussing trades,
whoever comes in the bottom 4 expect an offer from me, there is a roo who i really want. If you know your stuff you should know who that is.
haha.
his father wasn't exactly a prolific ball winner :P
and he also had the dumbest name ever.
should have named his son Ronald :P

im worried about pendles getting tagged, wouldnt mind having boyd right about now. I thought about going gibbsy but carrying my backline is enough responsibility.
something noticable, the guy everyone said i was robbing torp has nearly been dropped. Liam "the kermit" athony was on a knife edge with a guy i took in the last few picks of the rookie draft in richard "the gun" douglas almost pushing him out.
EXV
D - Enright, Newman, Dempster, Bob Murphy
M - Jobe Watson (C), Scott Thompson (ade), Tuck, Montagna (VC)
R - Minson
F - NickRoo, Bartel, Cox, J. Brown

Unlucky to miss out - Dal Santo, Treloar, McPharlin.
