Title: AXV: Sri Lankan Strikers
Post by: Jay on August 15, 2012, 09:49:33 PM
Hello fellow FanFooty members. I am Jayman, the head coach/owner of the AXV club, the 'Sri Lankan Strikers'. This is my first time owning a 15s team and am really looking forward to my time participating in this competition. I will be updating this thread regularly with information on this club including guernsey, stadium, draft results, team list, trade movements and results. Before i kick it off, id like to acknowledge the efforts of ColliWobblers in getting this competition running.

Thank You

Media spokesman for the Sri Lankan Strikers Jayman said that the first Australia Rules Football match will be played here in 2013 This is the largest stadium in Sri Lanka measuring 200 meters by 200 meters.  Already a match between two teams from Hambantota and Matara have been played in the venue to test the grounds. The Asia 15s administrators have already inspected the ground and has appreciated the standards of the work done.

ROUNDS 1-10 DRAFT SUMMARY

After 10 tough rounds of drafting. We are very happy with our squad:
K. Jack - had a stellar 2012, especially his 2nd half. He has finally adapted to the AFL and I believe he will lead the Strikers forward. He is a tackling machine that kicks goals...perfect for this comp.
T. Rockliff - very young and has huge upside. We hope he is listed as a fwd in 2013
S. Jacobs - every team needs a good ruckman, and we have a great one in Jacobs. He is consistent and very durable
S. Grigg - one of the best outside players in the game. Great average and only 24
R. Conca - one of the best young backmen in the game. Has massive potential that we think he can fullfil over the next couple of years
M. Clark - up there with best key forwards in the game and still improving himself.
H. Scotland - top 5 backmen and will add some experience to the backline.
S. Gibson - showed this year he is more than capable of becoming a premium mid.
M. Golby - a young back who we fell will peform a lethal combo with Conca in a couple of years.
K. Simpson - couldnt pass up when saw he was still available at pick 147. Gun ourside player who still has a good few years left yet.

ROUNDS 11-20 DRAFT SUMMARY

Another 10 rounds goes by. Looking for some insight to our selections? Here it is:
Josh J. Kennedy - key forwards are gold in this comp and he is one of the best when fit. We feel he can dominate for the next 5 years
Tom Scully - at pick 179, what a steal. No1 draft pick with huge potential
Josh Jenkins - given a chance at crows and is improving steadily. Look for a breakout 2013
Justin Westhoff - he has an x-factor about him. Could turn premium as his team improves
Michael Walters - a lot to like about this boy. Massive upside with plenty of improvement still left
Shaun Burgoyne - proven gun, sub 30 so still a few years left of being one of the best backs
Gary Rohan - unlucky 2012 but will break out in 2013. If fit will be an absolute gun
Jamie Elliot - should cement his place in the magpie side in 2013. Very young so still on the rise
James Sellar - def/ruc dpp which shall be very handy. High draft-pick and only 23
Alex Johnson - 20, yes 20 years old. Cemented his place in the 22 for years to come

ROUNDS 21-30 DRAFT SUMMARY

Will Hoskin-Elliot - high draft pick and showed it in a handful of games this year. Can only get better©, and will be a major part of the Strikers midfield in the coming years along with his GWS team-mate, Tom Scully.
Curtly Hampton - this kid has major flair. With MPP and an improvement in work-rate,:should start to fire in the coming years. He was worth the punt at pick 339.
Brad Sheppard - very young, high draft pick. He's on an improving team and should increase himselfbto a fine player and take part in the devastating young backs I have with Golby and Conca.
Ryan Schoenmakers - much maligned but he is still young and puts out solid scores. Has improved dramatically and hopefully he continues the trend in 2013.
Scott Lycett - as soon as Cox retires or NicNat goes down, this guy will be ready. Imagine the good its doing to him watching Cox and NicNat train/play.
Jackson Painedef/fwd is always handy, and this guy has some serious potential.
Steven May - has the potential to explode. He is a work in progress but I'm very confident he can start to.cement his place in the Suns team.
Rhyce Shaw - his 2012 finals campaign with the Swans impressed me and we feel he will continue to be a solid back for a few years.
James Podsiadly - we needed an experienced, proven forward and we got a good one in.J-Pod! A steal for pick 462
Rhys Cooyou - impressed in NAB. Young , athletic forward who should cement his place in the Giants lineup during 2013

ROUNDS 31-36 DRAFT SUMMARY
Steven Salopek - finally got out of Port Adelaide and could thrive at a new club. On his day, he is a ball-magnet. Was obviously worth a punt at #494
Luke Brown - Crow/Norwood boy, so I couldnt resist. He was all the rang in the pre-season then died off a bit. Still young and I see him having a bright future.
Jason Tutt - if he can re-capture his debut form then he will be a steal...pretty big 'if' but only time will tell.
Cameron Guthrie - I like this boy, should have a solid career. Great to add another young gun to the backline
Tom Swift - Tabs is a fan of this boy so I think he'll prove his worth. Only 22 so plenty of improvement to be done
Jed Lamb - This kid has major x-factor...almost stevieJ like!

All lists made to reflect the trade with the PNG HeadHunters...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first trade in AXV history has been made, and we are part of it! In a blockbuster deal with the PNG HeadHunters, we have received Andrew Gaff, Jeremy Howe and NAT draft pick 21. Will be sad to see Tom Rockliff, Mitch Golby and NAT draft pick 51 be shipped off to Papau New Guinea but we believe it is the best thing for the club.

In a trade with the Dongs, Heath Scotland has left Sri Lanka - wanting to win a premiership before he retires in 1-2 years.

We welcome Scott D. Thompson to the Strikers :) he is 6 years younger than Scotland so we believe he will be around for our next flag, unlike Heath.

We also get NAT pick 48 in replacement for Rookie pick 19.

Excuse me erstwhile boss, (and do you even know what erstwhile means?),

Why the fluck are you applying for yet another coaching job?

Seems to us that you are struggling with the onerous duties you have over there in Sri Lanka.

May I suggest you withdraw your application and concentrate on 'our' Strikers?

Cheers / all in good faith

That will not happen mate.

Everyone in Sri Lanka would like to make Toga welcome as he starts his job as our draft consultant. He will providing us with valuable information during the drafts and we are sure to pick up some steals with him on board

As the NAT draft begun the speculation came true. The Strikers took Brodie Grundy, the best ruck in the draft with pick 3. We received numerous offers before the draft and one of them proved too good to be true.

So we have reached a trade with the Crocodiles resulting in us getting Shannon Hurn + Levi Casboult. We wish Brodie Grundy and Steven May all the best.

All of Sri Lanka has been rocked by the news that Reece Conca will be a mid only in 2013

We vow to our supporters that even though this news hurts we do not regret picking and we have high hopes for his future.

That's bulldust, he would have barely spent 50% of game time on the ball

Don't think he spent much time at all 'on the ball' tbag ;) the wing however is a midfield position ;)

Fair point smarty pants!

Though he did frustrate my DT every week when he sat in a forward pocket :o I do not believe he should be a pure mid, no way, not yet!

The rumours have been confirmed. Andrew Gaff has not been enjoying his short time in Sri Lanka and is looking for a new home. However we will not trade him easy, and are looking to do the best thing for our team.

We will listen to any offer but have an interest in star backs and/or fwds

Steele has been named VC for the Strikers

The Strikers quest for the inagural AXV premiership has dramatically increased overnight with a deal being done that lands us one of the best young forwards in the game, Dale Thomas. We have lost the services of Hamish Mcintosh and Rhys Palmer (we wish them well in Vietnam) but we believe this trade has really improved our squad and is a major chance to take out the premiership in any of the next few years.

Best XV
B: Suckling, Golby, Thompson, Grundy
M: Jack, Sidebottom, Simpson, Gibson
R: Jacobs
F: Thomas, Kennedy, Clark, Westhoff
U: Scully, Conca

(Better late than never...  :P)

Hello all,
just would like to thank the 'Strikers' in considering me for a 'Trade advisory' roll within their Club.

Hopefully in the short time and the trades made, Sri Lanka has become a stronger team with Youth being the main aim.
The building of a squad with potential "ultra" Premium players under 25yo and quality Rookies, the 'Strikers' will be competitive in the short term and a Force in the near future. With a window of opportunity for multiple Premierships.

Good luck to all Teams for the 2013 season.

So after the Strikers great start to the season taking care of the plucky Eskimoes, selection night was an interesting one.

We brought inform Hampton into the side at the expense of Rhyce Shaw who although was good we feel Hampton deserves a shot at the big time. Mature age recuit, Brett Goodes makes his debut for the Strikers after scoring 116 in round 1 for the reserves, Heath Grundy we feel needs to work on getting more possessions and have sent him back to the 2's. Josh Jenkins was very disappointing last week despite being the so-called coach's pet, he could not perform. This gives old man Podsiadly another crack after his impressive performance.

Unfortunately the Strikers suffered this first loss, coming up short against the Bears. We were clear underdogs but put up a good fight. The captains Jack and Sidey couldn't back up their first 2 games and that was the end of it.

On a positive note... JUSTIN WESTHOFF is playing amazing footy right now and did all he could to get the Strikers the win. After cracking the double ton last week he backed it up with 190 :o Crazy stuff...

This weekend was bitter sweet for the Strikers. Coming off the back of a great win against the Tigers, we received news that Ryan Schoenmakers will be out for the season with a knee injury. This is devastating news as he started the season off well and was close to being selected for the best 15. This makes it our 3rd knee injury to Sri Lankan backman, just shocking luck. Our thoughts are with all 3 of them - we are confident they will be firing for the start of 2014.

Quote(8th) TIGERS (1884) v (1901) STRIKERS (7th)

Very close and nervous game this weekend but in the end we came out on top. Some huge performances by Captain Westhoff, Vice Sidey, Brett Goodes and Sam Gibson - all cracking 150. ScottyD also helped out the backs with a game-winning 140 to shut the door on the Tigers. This win sees the Strikers @ three wins, 1 loss and 6th on the table

Some selection issues this week with Mitch Golby again disappointing. Kade Simpson is struggling for form while Josh Jenkins played very well in the twos.

Its true :( still think we have done very well to be 6th on the ladder and in the race for a home final when you consider all these injuries and the age of our squad. With some decent recruiting I think we will be knocking on the door of the top 4 pretty soon 8)

Last year's grand finalist in the Elephants might have something to say about that.  :P
They may say something, but then we'll just ignore them and carry on winning  ;D :P

On behalf of everyone here at Sri lanka, we would like to welcome the newest Striker, Brett Deledio to the club! His experience and match-winning ability will be key to our flag push in 2018.

Strikers win the 2019 flag   Seasons of building and fine tuning a squad that could go all the way, finally pays off.

The Grand final Captain Bontempelli had an outstanding year.  Special mention to old man Simpson, has been the rock in our backline for forever.
