Press Releases

Press Release 9th September 2012

The Swansea Breakers have asked for comment from Head Coach Ringo his comments on the Team that has been drafted for the first season of competition.

Ringo states that despite the vagaries of the Draft he is extremely happy with the team that has been drafted and is confident of a bold showing in the premiership.  Ringo said the club strategy was to draft a team with a mix of experience and youth and he believes this has been achieved with an average age of just 24 and only 2 Players Goodes and O'Keeffe over the age of 30.

Ringo said the one disappointment that having initial pick 16 in the draft we were unable to draft a real standout player and hence why the club is appointing a possible rotating Captain from the leadership group with Adam Goodes as Club Captain.

Asked if he will be active in the trade period Ringo said that if the right offers came along for any player it would be considered especially if it involves a gun top 20 player.  Asked what he would like from the draft if opportunities were presented Ringo gave this summary of the draft and requirements:

Backs: Good Blend of Youth and experience but may be able to release one or 2 for right offers.
Mids: Another good mix but obviously lacking the gun Rich, Jack or Sidey not quite there yet so if an opportunity came along to acquire a swan etc would be looked at but not at the expense of future strategy by giving too much away. May be able to release some here for right offers.
Rucks: Very solid here but seeking a backup either by trade or Draft to Nat and Jamar.
Forwards: Whilst a good mix line is solid but not spectacular.  Any offers that strengthen this line will be considered.

Ringo said whilst we will not be actively seeking trades we will listen to any offers.  Forward any offers direct to head coach Ringo by PM.

Press Release 6th December 2012

The Swansea Breakers are pleased to announce that after an extensive search they have appointed nrich102 as an assistant coach to Ringo.

nrich102 will assist Ringo in providing valuable input into drafting, trading and weekly team selections.  Ringo staes he is looking forward to working with nrich102 in developing the Breakers into a league powerhouse.

This appointment will ease the pressure on Ringo who has been operating as a sole coach for the past few months.

Join us in making nrich102 welcome to the club.

Press Release 10th December 2012

We are appointing a very new coach to the role of List and recruitment Manager.  Mr Micah only joined the coaching in November and we look forward to giving Mr Micah an opportunity to develop the list at the Breakers.

Mr Micah will work with head coach Ringo and assistant coach nrich102 in our list management by advising on trades, draft recruitment, and weekly team selections.

Join me in welcoming Mr Micah to the Breakers.

Press Release 3rd March 2013

There has been a reshuffle of coaching duties at the Club.  With Ringo heavily involved in the organising of the British Competition the Board has unanimously decided to promote nrich102 to the position of co-coach.
nrich102 has brought new and enthusiastic ideas to the club in his short tenure and the appointment can only see the club progress further.

Join me in congratulating nrich102.

This coaching team will serve the Breakers well with a blend of experience and youthful exuberance which will serve the Breakers well now and into the future.

Meet the Rookies

National Draft

Pick 33 - Nathan Wright - Defender/Midfielder who excels at stoppages. He is a strong overhead mark and takes a clean possession as well.
Pick 36 - James Stewart - Forward who has a good game sense and natural pace. He can play at either end of the ground. He is the son of former Collingwood player Craig Stewart.
Pick 39 - Brant Colledge - Defender/Forward who can play on a tall player in defence or be the lead up forward in attack. Is equally as good at either end of the ground.
Pick 40 - Clay Cameron - Forward who is a zone selection. He is very quick and can play at either end of the ground. He is a strong overhead mark as well.

Preseason/Rookie Draft

Pick 4 Matthew Taberner
Played senior footy for Myrtleford in the Ovens and Murray League this year before being invited back to Murray Bushrangers for the last four games to play as a 19-year-old. In those four games he kicked nine goals, including two bags of four. He averaged three contested marks, including seven in one game against the Dandenong Stingrays.

Pick 20 Rhys O'Keefe (compensation pick Simon Buckley)
O'Keeffe had more continuity in 2011, his third season, playing the full season for the Bullants. He was elevated to Carlton's senior list in place of the injured Andrew Collins prior to Round 14, and made his first AFL appearance that same week, his only for the 2011 season. He missed the first half of the 2012 season with a foot injury, and played a further two AFL matches. He was retained on Carlton's rookie list for 2013.

Pick 23 Danny Butcher (compensation pick Josh Drummond)
Butcher, recruited from Gippsland Power with pick 21 in the 2012 rookie draft, is the younger brother of John, now teammates at Port Adelaide. He won Gippsland’s best and fairest last season and finished second in the B&F count in the TAC Cup. A different player from his high-leaping and powerful marking brother, Butcher is an inside-midfielder who is tough and competes hard for the contested ball.

Pick 39 Xavier Richards
Played in the TAC Cup this season as a 19-year-old after making the Vic Metro side in 2011. Younger brother of Swans premiership player Ted.

Pick 46 Cadeyn Williams (compensation pick Thomas Swift)
Was in brilliant form with the Bushrangers in the early stages of the 2012 TAC Cup season, before a shoulder injury brought a premature end to his football year. Has strong endurance and excellent lateral movement in traffic. His awareness and vision with his hands in traffic is a real strength.

Pick 70 Justin Clarke (compensation pick Matt Campbell)
Justin Clarke is a tall and quick rebounding defender with terrific speed for his size (2.97sec for 20m at the State Draft Combine in Adelaide) and a long, penetrating kick. He is a star in Country South Australia who also played with North Adelaide in the SANFL.

Last Minute Magic from Swan Steals the Game from Blue

A last minute goal from 75 to Dane Swan has given the Inter Club match to Red.
Red seemed in trouble at first, with ruckman Max Gawn pulling out with a hamstring injury he got earlier in the day during training, calling up Rory Thompson, with the occasional hit Aaron Cornelius, to do the rucking. Yet Eddie Betts went crazy, kicking 3 goals and 4 behinds. But Blue wouldn't go without there, share of goals, with Matthew De Boer kicking 3 goals 4 behinds.

Score
Red 8.6.54
Def
Blue 7.9.51

Goals
Red Betts 3, Jetta 2, Cornelius, Sidebottom, Swan
Blue de Boer 3, Rich 2, J Kennedy, McGrath

Match Up's
Docherty played on McGrath, Patfull played on de Boer, Talia played on Cornelius when he was playing forward.

Best(no particular order)
Swan, Betts, de Boer, Rich, Moloney, Docherty, Cooney, Talia, Golby

Other stuff
Maguire played half of the game. Goldsack and C. Brown switched between forward and back.

Aaron Cornelius has been dropped from the Swansea Breakers for round 2. Aaron scored went spud last round, scoring only 51, as Swansea was defeated by Nottingham. Jeff Garlett will make his debut for the side, as a replacement for Cornelius. Joel Patful has also been omitted to make way for Dylan Grimes, as he comes back from injury.

On the bright side for the Swansea Breakers, Leigh Montagna will make his return, after serving a one match ban he got from the pre season friendly game against Manchester. Troy Chaplin will also be playing, after getting a concussion last weekend.

Swansea Breakers midfielder Claye Beams will likely miss the rest of the season after rupturing his left ACL at training on Wednesday.

Scans confirmed the injury on Wednesday afternoon, with the young gun and the club set to determine the best course of action for his surgery and rehabilitation.

Swansea general Co-Coach Nrich102 said the injury was a huge disappointment for both Beams and the club.

"Claye had an outstanding pre-season and was edging towards our best XV, so understandably he is devastated by this setback," Nrich said.

"We are certain Claye’s strong character will get him through this tough period and that he will approach his rehabilitation with absolute professionalism."

Beams, 21, has not played a senior game for the Breakers, but was best on ground in the reserves game.

The Swansea Breakers have defeated the Huddersfield Hawks by a comfortable 26 points. Captain Dane Swan was best on ground, scoring 196 points. Sidebottom, Montagna, Cooney, Jamar and Garlett had good games, while debutant Sam Docherty had a dream debut.

And in the defense, 1 player (Sam Docherty, 91) scored over 60. Co-Coach, Nrich102 said that it was a poor performance from some of the boys, and there will have to be some tough decisions made at the selection table.

Mid Season Trade Review

Trade 1
Swansea Gives: Sam Gibson and pick 34 (Picked Spencer White with it then traded him to Jackson Thurlow)
Swansea Receives: Josh J Kennedy and Aaron Cornelius

Verdict: I don't think we won or lost this trade. JJK has been really good in our forward line, and with Betts always suspended, He has just about been our savior. Sam Gibson would have been a helpful emergency, but I think that JJK is nore important in our team. Voss is an idiot, so Cornelius has not been playing.

Trade 2
Swansea Gives:  Motlop, Nat Pick 3 (Jimmy Toumpas), Nat Pick 70 (Josh Prudden), S Reid(GWS) and J. Wilkinson
Swansea Receives: Eddie Betts, Josh Jenkins, Nat Pick 33 (Nathan Wright), Nat Pick 36 (J Stewart) and Nat Pick 40 (Clay Cameron)

Verdict: I think we lost this trade. Motlop is averaging 96, and Betts has been terrible this year. I think that the rest of the trade is about equal though.

Trade 3
Swansea Gives: Kieran Jack, Ryan O'Keefe and Josh Jenkins
Swansea Receives: Dane Swan, Lewis Jetta and Claye Beams

Verdict: We lost this trade. Jack has been smashing it this year. O'Keefe has also been good. Claye Beams is out for the season, but will be good in the future. Lewis Jetta has been terrible this year, but we traded him out again ;)

Trade 4
Swansea Gives: Danyle Pearce and Rhys O'Keeffe
Swansea Receives: Leroy Jetta and Sam Docherty

Verdict: Loss for us. Pearce would have been a great back for us this year. O'Keeffe is a spud, and hasn't played yet. Jetta has not played yet, and Docherty has played a couple of games, but has worn the vest most times (Stupid Voss)

Trade 5
Swansea Gives: Aaron Sipposs
Swansea Receives: Max Gawn

Verdict: Even trade. They have both been averaging about the same, both terrible. Gawn has done what he had to do for us though.

Trade 6
Swansea Gives: Lewis Jetta
Swansea Receives: Adam Cooney

Verdict: Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. Massive win for us. Lewis Jetta has been potato farming all year, and Adam Cooney will probably be top 5 in our B&F.

Overall  Verdict: We lost a couple of trades, but overall we won. We have made a top 4 side, and we should win the premiership.

Nice summary Richy and agree with overall summary.

Regarding Trade 3 it gave us a permanent Captain in Swan which were lacking. Would have been tossing up over a few players each week. Agree Jack has taken his game to the next level and that would lean the balance against trade.

We have some good depth now as well and with right trades will continue to be a force.

Round 11 Review
(http://i41.tinypic.com/fa38yw.png)

Despite Josh Kennedy being a late out and many below par performances, the Swansea Breakers have defeated the Manchester Magic 159 to 148. Finals Week 1 Review

The Swansea Breakers have defeated the Nottingham Hoods, despite having a makeshift ruckman in Liam Picken. The Breakers now get a week off and will play either the Bradford Badgers or the Hebden Bridge Hedgehogs.

Coach nrich102 said that the boys played well, and they really deserve the week off. Nrich said that the Breakers are now in a strong position to win the premiership.

Docherty Walks Out on the Breakers
Sam Docherty has had a fall out with the Swansea Breakers, and walked out on the club.

Quote from: Sam DochertyThe last year has been a year of pain for me. The club makes me have to cook my own food, and I can't go to McDonalds at all. Also, Ringo smells funny.

Quote from: Nrich on Sam DochertySam is a real pain to work with. The world has to revolve around him, and he has the worst diet. He gives zero shower about anything. Good bye and Good Riddance Sam.

The Breakers got pick 11 in return for Sam Docherty, who has gone too the Oxford Owls.

Full Trade:
Breakers Give: Sam Docherty
Breakers Get: Pick 11

The Breakers have also traded Jeff Garlett to the Owls for Tim Membrey and a pick upgrade.

Full trade:
Breakers Give: Jeff Garlett and pick 69
Breakers Get: Tim Membrey and Pick 32

There is also a rumour that the Breakers have an interest in Matthew Pavlich at the Crosby Cruisers.

Injury Crisis at the Breakers

The Swansea Breakers have a mounting injury crisis, with Daniel Rich being ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. He joins teammates Colin Garland, Claye Beams, Max Gawn, Adam Goodes and Ash McGrath who are currently also recovering from injury.

Coach nrich102 said that despite the amount of injuries, there are no excuses for a poor performance.

IDK If anyone cbf to read this but meh, may as well post it anyway.

We take a break from the voting now to review the season that was. The Breakers fell down to 16th place, after finishing 3rd in 2013, and managed only three wins. This was due to a combination of poor form, injuries and bad trading over the off season.

Trade Review:

Hebden Bridge Hedgehogs give:  Matthew Lobbe  + Heath Shaw+ 2nd round pick 35
Swansea Breakers give:  Nic Nat + Matthew DeBoer + 5th round pick 87

Verdict: Win. Matthew Lobbe is averaging more points per game than Nic Naitanui is, and has played more games, while Heath Shaw has averaged 8 points per game than De Boer has. The Breakers used pick 35 to draft Jake Kolodjashnij, while the Hedgehogs passed on pick 87.

Swansea Breakers give: Troy Chaplin
Liverpool Lobsters give: Jarrod Witts

Verdict: Witts is a future gun and handy backup ruckman. Witts played 8 games for the club this year, and averaged 86. Chaplin has only averaged 65 this year.

Breakers Give: Garlett + Pick 69
Owls Give: Membrey + Pick 32

Verdict: Meh. Bit of a nothing trade. Garlett has been controversial off field this year, and has only averaged 51. Membrey has been developing in the reserves this season, but he should be seen in action next season. Pick 32 was used to recruit defender Darcy Gardiner, who played a game in the second last round of the season after strong reserves performances. Look out for Gardiner next year. Should be a win in the long term.

Breakers give: Sam Docherty
Owls give: Pick 11

Verdict: Loss... For now. Pick 11 was used to get Ben 'Beatle' Lennon, who played a game this year. Docherty, who had a falling out with the club, has played well at Oxford, averaging 94. Wait to see Beatle develop into a super forward of the competition though ;)

Falcons give: Joel Selwood
Breakers Give: Dane Swan

Verdict: Win. Massive Massive win. Swans average has fallen to 120, which is a full 20 points lower than Selwood, who is averaging 140. Big win.

Breakers Give: Steele Sidebottom and Nathan Wright
Hawks Give: Cyril Rioli and Koby Stevens

Verdict: Loss. This is where the trades fell down. Stevens is inconsistent, and just isn't as good as Sidebottom. The trade was done to get another forward in Rioli, however he has only managed 10 games this year after struggling with injury. Sidebottom has lifted his average up to 135, after a massive back half of the season. However this trade was necessary because we really lack a forward, and we still do.

The drafting that we did was not a major issue, however, our top 5 draftees have put together a combined total of 3 games between them, due to injury and other factors. Although a bit of pain this season, all the draftees should manage more games next year, as they're more developed.

The Breakers are not doomed.

We'll pause again in the voting, to recognize the players with the highest score and highest average. Leigh Montagna scored the highest this year, scoring 216 in round 7. The player with the highest average at the club this year, is none other than Captain Joel Selwood himself. Montagna and Selwood have been partners in crime this season, dominating the midfield together. For the record, each of them came second in the award the other won, with Selwood having a high score of 198 and Montagna averaging 120. Congratulations Boys.

We will again pause from the voting for the Ringo Medal, as we announce the players who took there game to a new level in 2014, and those who didn't, with the Most Improved and the Under-performer awards.

The under-performer of the year is... Mitch Golby. Golby, who won the most improved player in 2013, fell from glory this year. He played only 5 games for an average of 73, and never really looked like he was getting into the game. Hopefully this can improve next year Mitch.

2016/17 Drafting

National Draft
Pick 9 Will Setterfield
(https://i.gyazo.com/8942736802f51d0b1db56493012adcd7.png)

https://afldraftcentral.com.au/player/will-setterfield/

Summary:
Will Setterfield has the traits that should give him the ability to transition into an inside midfield role in the future. Despite some question marks on his durability, Setterfield has shown in 2016 that if fit and firing he can be a damaging player around the stoppages.

Pick 23 - Shai Bolton

https://afldraftcentral.com.au/player/shai-bolton/

Summary:
Bolton as a player has traits not too dissimilar to Hawthorn’s Cyril Rioli, with an outstanding step to get around his opponent.  Bolton like Rioli isn’t a huge disposal winner, but can be exciting with ball in hand. He will likely land somewhere in the second or third round of the National Draft. Clubs such as Sydney, West Coast and Western Bulldogs could all use small forwards who are creative and could use Bolton’s services.
Bolton is a marvel in the way he glides around the ground using his evasiveness, speed and footy smarts to break games open. He’s a player you would pay to see as he can, on his day, kick goal of the year and take mark of the year in the same game.

Rookie Draft

Pick 9 - Tom Ruggles

Local lad from the Geelong area who became one of the most consistent defenders in the competition while playing with the Cats’ VFL team in 2015. Held his spot across half-back all season, despite pressure for spots as AFL players came back from injury. Ended up winning Geelong’s VFL best and fairest. A hard worker, he has made many sacrifices to get a shot at the highest level.

Pick 25 - Oscatr McInerney
